Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5064Nov 07, 2015 8:05 pm You need a hub style setup if you want wired connection through your house. I had them installed to all the rooms with tv or a internet capable device that I will never move. Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5065Nov 09, 2015 1:28 pm We are getting a hills hub and builder supplies 2 data points and we have included an extra one total of 3 but if the kids want to use their laptops in their bedroom are they able to connect wirelessly or do we need data points in every room, at the moment we are on nbn network and have one data point with a modem which then we are able to use wi fi any where in the house with any device (computer, laptops and mobiles) so is opticom able to do this Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5066Nov 09, 2015 10:11 pm kageanrage Brahma Bull The hub is essentially a nice little box in your garage that binds all your gear together, including the NTD that Opticom will install. $2000 is expensive, we were only charged $1300 for the hub. I do recommend it though. So with the data points, to put it simply, if you have them in every room, you just need to connect your PC or Laptop to the data point in the wall to gain internet or network access. So if your kids have a PC in their room, then it's you'd definitely want a data point in their room. Also good to have in lounge room or family room. Connect your Foxtel Box to the data point or your TV - then you'll have internet through your TV and Foxtel. So these data points will connect back into the hub in your garage where your NTD is. That's where you're getting your Internet from. Your builder will connect up your hub and all your data point. Then after handover, you'll need Opticom to come out and install the NTD and hook things up. After that, you can call an internet provider and activate your service....then you'll have Internet. Hope that helps. Hi BB, we met with Prestige Electrical who do the electrical stuff for our builder, chose all our lights, switches and data points, but there was never a mention of a hub, and we've already signed off on the quote and paid them as part of a progress payment. Presumably we'll need a hub, do you suggest I recontact Prestige, or can perhaps Opticomm supply the hub once we move in? Also, do you have any more detail on what this hub is - can I buy it online and have it installed for example? Thanks! If you have data points hooked up, you should have some sort of hub? Otherwise not sure where all your network gear will terminate. I'd be chasing that up to find out. I would call Prestige and get clarification on that. $395 Fixed Priced Landscape Plans for DA M: 0435 127 244 | W: bluegumdesign.com.au | E: info@bluegumdesign.com.au Residential | Commercial | Industrial Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5067Nov 09, 2015 10:25 pm Jonesy We are getting a hills hub and builder supplies 2 data points and we have included an extra one total of 3 but if the kids want to use their laptops in their bedroom are they able to connect wirelessly or do we need data points in every room, at the moment we are on nbn network and have one data point with a modem which then we are able to use wi fi any where in the house with any device (computer, laptops and mobiles) so is opticom able to do this Nbn and opticomm are the same (well original nbn is). Just go with the amount of hard wired points you think you need Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5068Nov 09, 2015 10:25 pm Jonesy We are getting a hills hub and builder supplies 2 data points and we have included an extra one total of 3 but if the kids want to use their laptops in their bedroom are they able to connect wirelessly or do we need data points in every room, at the moment we are on nbn network and have one data point with a modem which then we are able to use wi fi any where in the house with any device (computer, laptops and mobiles) so is opticom able to do this They can connect wirelessly via their laptops, but you'll just have to buy a wireless router when you move in - You can simply hook your wireless router to one of your data points (and of course, set it up by following the instructions...) and boom - You'll have wireless ability in your home. Bare in mind, data points are preferable in rooms if you're using a laptop and PC. You'll get faster speeds and better stability if you are connecting them straight to your data points. Only connect wirelessly when your devices are on the move (If you want to use your laptop while sitting on the lounge etc). Opticom are there to just connect your NTD and connect from the street to your house - So they don't have any involvement in your internal network. $395 Fixed Priced Landscape Plans for DA M: 0435 127 244 | W: bluegumdesign.com.au | E: info@bluegumdesign.com.au Residential | Commercial | Industrial Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5071Nov 10, 2015 10:24 am GSP07R Amanda is that your garage in the last pic with the drop edge? if so what ceiling height is will it be Yes it is the garage in the last pic. Our builder is supplying Hills home hub. You can also buy something similar off eBay for about $150. Try searching 'switch rack mount'. Not sure actually, I'll have to check the manual. However, to give you an idea, this is what was in our tender: Quote: Provide National Broadband Network - Phone & Date Fibre to Home $1,213 * 2 x additional Phone points * 2 x Data points * Cat-5E cabling as required to suit * Provide 1 x PSU (Power supply unit) in Garage * Includes link cabling from Garage mounted Power supply Hub to Optical Network Termination point below meter box on outside wall. If you are having data points in your home, you should have something like this in your tender? $395 Fixed Priced Landscape Plans for DA M: 0435 127 244 | W: bluegumdesign.com.au | E: info@bluegumdesign.com.au Residential | Commercial | Industrial A survey must’ve completed by a certified surveyor.
