Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 27, 2013 3:04 pm Our house is nearly finished, and lately we have had a couple of storms that have blown water under the sill of the front door + twin leadlight panels(between the slab and sill). The builder didn't flash it or waterproof it because it is in a verandah. So we've got some advice from the building inspector and a friend who is a builder, which is to cut a slot in the slab in front of the door and put in some aluminium strip 25mm by 1.6mm, along the front of the door, and also inside. The seal it with something like Sikaflex. Alternatively take out the door and put a proper waterproofing in. The builder says that he wouldn't be able to do a slot in the slab close to the door sill, and that Sikaflex is ok on its own. But of course this would be the easiest and cheapest for him and then if it fails, we are stuck with it in a few years. I'm worried that the water will come under the door and lift our tiles and also get into the cloak cupboard. Has anyone else had experience with this sort of problem and how to fix it ? Thanks in advance. Building Standards; Getting It Right! There doesn't look to be any rebate in the slab to prevent water from scooting under the window.
