Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in Brooks Reach 121Apr 18, 2013 8:44 pm Sorry Darren I thought you meant you had 2 pits at the new house not your current house LOL. No worries, cheers Re: Building in Brooks Reach 122Apr 19, 2013 4:53 pm Ok so we haven't had any updates for our site at this point from our SS; He is meant to call every Friday but forgot to call us today ... SO tomorrow hubs and I will head out to Brooks Reach and see if our frames we're delivered today as they were meant to be (maybe that's why ss didn't call because - though he is meant to keep us updated either way!)
Also Hubs called Local Group AGAIN today for about the 100th time and eventually got to speak to the guy that did our CDC. His response to the tree issue was to simply pull it out. He said we could try and save it but he doesn't think it would cope with being replanted. He said not to worry about it as he is the one who will deal with council anyway and he doesn't have an issue with the tree being removed. As this was a phone call we’ve stressed we need to try and get it in writing; but they are a bit unhelpful with that, but we can try! At least I've shared it here with you guys so you can back us up if anything happens Hope you all have a great weekend Re: Building in Brooks Reach 123Apr 19, 2013 5:01 pm hi Ruby, i just showed my sister around brooks reach this afternoon. i think your frames have arrived!. sorry i wasn't having a good look but i think i saw wooden frames, would that sound right? Joh. Hi Joh WHat did your sister think? Was it cold and windy when you were there? Yep we are meant to have wooden frames (treated with termite stuff so they should be a blueish-green). Thanks for letting me know Re: Building in Brooks Reach 125Apr 19, 2013 6:00 pm I can confirm Ruby that your frames are there! We were also up there this arvo and I saw with my very own eyes LOL!! Yay! Happy Friday PS - yes it was very cold and windy!! Re: Building in Brooks Reach 127Apr 19, 2013 7:11 pm yep it was freezing!!! she thought is was a very nice outlook. i'm trying to convince her to build there too, but she's content in Sydney Building the Nova with MJH http://thehousethatj-lbuilt.blogspot.com.au "When you are arguing against Him, you are arguing against the very power that makes you able to argue at all." C.S. Lewis Re: Building in Brooks Reach 128Apr 19, 2013 8:00 pm So we went to MJH to have our variations presented to us and this is what we're going with: - 40mm stone bench tops instead of 20mm, with waterfall edges either side - ducted aircon - 450mm pop out under eave in family room for TV recess - 450mm extension to Bed 3 - sliding mirrored robes in Beds 2, 3 & 4 - upgrade walkin pantry door to Hume LIN1 with translucent glass - getting a door on walk in robe - getting Impressions Package thrown in for free - free upgrade to Smeg appliances including microwave and dishwasher (Smeg have now teamed up with MJH instead of Omega) Yay! Think we'll put that deposit down soon Re: Building in Brooks Reach 129Apr 19, 2013 8:01 pm Plus god knows what we'll bloody upgrade to at colours, I dread to think! Re: Building in Brooks Reach 130Apr 19, 2013 9:04 pm Nat84 - 40mm stone bench tops instead of 20mm, with waterfall edges either side - ducted aircon - 450mm pop out under eave in family room for TV recess - 450mm extension to Bed 3 - sliding mirrored robes in Beds 2, 3 & 4 - upgrade walkin pantry door to Hume LIN1 with translucent glass - getting a door on walk in robe - getting Impressions Package thrown in for free - free upgrade to Smeg appliances including microwave and dishwasher (Smeg have now teamed up with MJH instead of Omega) Yay! Think we'll put that deposit down soon Wow - sounds fantastic Nat! I love your plan (your other half showed me yesterday) and lovin your variations..(we're only getting the 20mm Caesarstone, would love it to be 40mm, but it was getting wayyyyy too expensive!) We only have one waterfall edge, thankfully! Ducted air is one of those things that if you don't get when the house is getting built you probably won't get at all, that's what we figured anyway. Had to look up the Impression Package, but that looks pretty good and a good saving too! And yeah, give yourself a bit of leeway (read - extra $$$'s!) for your colours upgrades lol Wiz Built @ Brooks Reach Built the Verdelho Guest with Beechwood Re: Building in Brooks Reach 131Apr 20, 2013 2:23 pm Thanks Wiz we're pretty happy with it! Now that we have started getting the ball rolling and have fallen in love with a house it gives us that much more motivation to save, save, save! I agree about the ducted air, it would be too hard basket once you've moved in, best to get it done during construction so you're ready to rock when you move in. I think living out that way too it's a must as you don't get the sea breeze out there. Is anyone getting an alarm system? Any idea on cost? And also, how much did everyone allow themselves to spend at colours? I have no idea of a figure to have in mind. I know I definitely want glossy kitchen cupboards with no handles and soft closing doors and drawers. I guess door handles would prob be upgraded, sounds like a few people do that. Did anyone upgrade tiles or anything like that? Re: Building in Brooks Reach 132Apr 20, 2013 3:00 pm Nat84 how much did everyone allow themselves to spend at colours? Hey Nat, I know we have a different builder but if you go here http://rubyam.wordpress.com/2013/02/20/kitchen-spec/ you can read about our Kitchen appointment: the initial quote for upgrades (not including smeg appliances and other things we asked for) came close to $13,000!!! We are thinking we might install soft closing draws and possible cupboards post handover as you can DIY for a lot cheaper. We didn't upgrade kitchen tiles as we're having a solid panel of metaline from laminex http://www.laminex.com.au/products.php# ... nd-panels/ (champagne perle colour). we wanted shiny doors in our kitchen too, but just couldn't afford it in the end Our door handles that were included were pretty good so we didn't have to upgrade them. Your place sounds dreamy and it sounds like you're making some good informed choices and figuring out what you want in your home. I definitely do not plan on building again for a long time after this haha. Best to do it right the first time, right?! Re: Building in Brooks Reach 133Apr 20, 2013 5:23 pm Too right Ruby!!! I definitely want to get it right this time as I plan to be in this house for a very very very long time! Our house won't be huge but I want some nice bells and whistles and I especially want a beautiful luxurious kitchen that I feel inspired to cook in. Actually I'll have to post our plans, once I figure out how to upload on this thing! Re: Building in Brooks Reach 134Apr 20, 2013 5:39 pm Nat84 Actually I'll have to post our plans, once I figure out how to upload on this thing! Yay! I can't wait to check them out i use http://imageshack.us/ but you can also use tinypic or photobucket and a few other image hosting sites After you upload you just copy the img or forum code and paste in here Re: Building in Brooks Reach 135Apr 20, 2013 9:14 pm YAY OUR FRAMES WERE DELIVERED Thanks for everyone who checked for us yesterday and Thursday. If they hadn't been delivered we wouldn't have taken a trip out there. It's sad to see them sitting in the rain, but hopefully we'll get a good few days of sun next week so they can be put up. SS said that frames usually take about 2-3 days. Frames are looking good! Loving the "hot hubby" quote haha I hope it all flies by for you now! Fingers crossed for lots of sunshine Re: Building in Brooks Reach 137Apr 21, 2013 11:05 am 'Hot hubby' made me laugh Must be exciting for u!!! Nat, your selections sound similar to ours. I really wanted the ducted air con, especially since they are putting the ugly reverse cycle at the top on the pop-out tv area in the Lounge room going to look so terrible. But we just could not afford the extra $10000 at least it was going too cost. Might do something after a few years but like you said I bet we won't! We spent $13000 extra at colous, but that was mostly on the kitchen. Maybe I shouldn't have paid $5000 for 2 PAC polyurethane cupboards and spent the money on ac :0 Just under $5000 at electrical. We went pretty basic with electrical. Let me know if u want to know the cost of some things I might have chosen already good luck. It's all exciting but a long wait we are focusing on saving more too so we can get things done after handover such as plantation shutters, fencing, gardens, rendering the whole house and repainting in the colours I actually want. Also want white wooden French doors to the alfresco installed after handover as they were too $ through mjh. Lewis Re: Building in Brooks Reach 138Apr 21, 2013 1:01 pm Hello all. I too am going to be building in Brooks Reach! Currently waiting for a quote variation with McDonald Jones before paying a deposit. Have made a request for help in relation to electrical and colour upgrades in the MDJ thread, as this is one area that isn't really explained (at all). I have things in mind and want to know if I'll need a second job to get them Congrats to you all, looks like there are going to be many a nice house out there! Cheers! McDonald Jones - Bordeaux Two Re: Building in Brooks Reach 139Apr 21, 2013 1:59 pm Thanks Joh! I'll definitely be asking you some questions along the way what are 2 PAC Polyurethane cupboards? Yeah A/C is expensive, MJH price is $11,990 but they have a promo for $7,990 so we're getting that. Think we'll buy a decent gas heater though for winter time as opposed to using the reverse cycle A/C. Are you extending Bedroom 3 also? What else did you upgrade? Welcome DimeRazorback! What stage are you going to be building in? I'm going through the quotation process with MJH at the moment also, will be paying our $3K deposit next week Re: Building in Brooks Reach 140Apr 21, 2013 2:10 pm Hi Nat, thank you. Building in Stage 9, should be paying my deposit this week also just waiting on a couple of variations on the quote. Based on your posts I take it you're building the Nova?
