Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4302Apr 13, 2015 12:38 pm Hi Guys, Anyone able to provide a first hand information about Brookes Reach Estate? My family is looking at buying a piece of land there in the next release, but since we don't know much about the area/surroundings other than relying on internet queries, I would really appreciate any useful info. BTW: I work in Sydney CBD. Please let me know how you cope with transportation to/fro work if you also work in the city. Kind regards, dxn Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4303Apr 13, 2015 1:18 pm Hi dxn, my hubby and I have been living there since September last year and we absolutely love it and are so glad we chose to build there. At the moment there are a lot of roadworks happening and probably will be for some time to come, which is causing a bit of grief for all the residents but it is to be expected with a brand new estate. Other than that though, it is a peaceful and family-friendly place to live and although my hubby and I will remain child-free it is still nice being surrounded by so many lovely families. I used to commute to Sydney years ago before we even lived there (at the time I lived in Corrimal) so I can't comment on that extra 20-30 mins it would add on for commuting but I think a few people do commute from Brooks Reach and if they see this I guess they could comment - bear in mind though that we are right near Dapto station which is a main station and probably more likely to get a good seat on the train as it is before Wollongong station I would definitely recommend living there! All the best Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4304Apr 13, 2015 1:39 pm Thanks Nat84. Your comments are well appreciated. I'll await more responses from those who commute to the city from Brookes Reach. One other question though: I read somewhere that Brooks Reach is split between the "good" side of Dapto and the "bad" side of Dapto. Is this really true? The next release is going to be in Brooks Reach North. Where does this end of Brooks Reach fall -- the good side or the bad side? - dxn Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4305Apr 13, 2015 1:48 pm I haven't heard anything about Brooks Reach being "split" between a good and bad side of Dapto at all. Brooks Reach North is basically right across the road from Brooks Reach and we are surrounded by farmland and the backdrop of the escarpment, so we are a little removed from the main area of Dapto if that helps. Are you from the Illawarra / do you know the area? Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4306Apr 13, 2015 2:07 pm Thanks again Nat84. I don't know much about the Illawarra, but I used to visit Wollongong a while ago. We hope to come around for a drive soon. May be that will also help boost our morale. Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4307Apr 13, 2015 2:09 pm Yeah I think definitely best to come down and check it out - then you will see exactly what I mean Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4308Apr 13, 2015 2:27 pm I am currently building in Brooks Reach but I was born and raised in Fairy Meadow and growing up Dapto always had a poor reputation. With Horsley being right next door I was apprehensive to purchase land in Brooks Reach, however when I went out there I was surprised to see that it was quite a distance out of Dapto itself and I actually really liked the area with its rural backdrop. Being only 15 minutes drive from the centre of Wollongong and 15 minutes from the centre of Shellharbour also really appealed to me. In saying that I have worked in Dapto for almost 2 years now and its been a positive experience so far. I've never heard of Brooks Reach (Horsley) being split between the bad side of Dapto or the good side as it is a separate suburb all together. Towradgi/Fairy Meadow where I currently live is a very sort after area in Wollongong, however the suburb of Bellambi is only down the road and this suburb has a very bad reputation. I guess what I am trying to say is you can live in a great area but you will always be surrounded by suburbs that cater to lower socio-economic families. I don't know much about the transport in Dapto but as Nat said Dapto station is quite big and close to Brooks Reach and I always see several buses going in and out of the estate. I've heard that there are plans for a bypass to be built out at Brooks Reach so people won't have to drive back into the centre of Dapto to get onto the highway- there are also plans for a Stocklands to be built out at Brooks Reach to cater for the growth, so people won't have to go into Dapto Mall to shop. Personally I am looking forward to moving to Brooks Reach. Everyone on this forum and everyone I have met are all lovely people who are always happy to help and provide information no questions asked. It definitely has a great community feel to it.
Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4310Apr 13, 2015 2:59 pm While I work in Wollongong, I've had to travel to Sydney a few times for work - I get on at dapto and get off at town hall. It's a journey of about 2 hours each way. The down side is that trains only run every 30 minutes during peak time and about every hour off peak. I know a few people drive to Sutherland and train into the city from there and it's quicker. Just depends on your own preference. Into the city getting a seat isn't an issue, coming home can be, again depending on timing. In regards to the good and bad side of dapto, the stigma of dapto has changed a lot in recent years and if you had to label sides, I would more go old and new dapto. The further you go from dapto to horsley, the "newer" the homes get. Most of the homes around brooks reach would be less than 10-15 years old, so the area is really nice. Kind regards, dxn Hi dxn, My husband and I work in Syd CBD and Western Syd, we have tried to drive from Western Syd to Brooks Reach and it took around 2 hours one way (moderate traffic). And we used to live in Wollongong and traveled by train to Syd CBD everyday, it took almost 2 hours....but need to wait for the train for 30 mins.....Anyway, compare with the higher cost of houses in Syd, we believe it worth.....Hope our information will be helpful MJH - Hamilton Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4313Apr 13, 2015 8:32 pm Hey Dxn it takes me 1hr to get to work at eastern creek but mind you I'm doing the trips out of peak hour times it's pretty good. Ashleigh on the other hand use to drive to Sydney cbd and took her 1hr 20min. We are from Sydney originally and made the move down here and love it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Built the Nova with MJH completed Dec 2013 Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4315Apr 14, 2015 11:56 am Just don't mind the roadworks as you enter the estate haha they'll be done eventually though ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Built the Nova with MJH completed Dec 2013 Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4316Apr 15, 2015 9:43 pm We are also from Sydney and made the move down here. We could have bought a house in Western Sydney but as soon as that became an option we bought the land in Brooks Reach :/ You will find that in the near future Horsley will become a sought after area, there are 3-4 new estates coming up which are lifting the house and land prices up. My husband grew up in Dapto and agrees that there was a stigma but that has dramatically changed with all the new developments. How often do your SS's call you? Do you they keep you regularly updated about what's happened and give you time frames on when things are expected to be done/ when they are scheduled in to be done? Thanks! Our SS hasn't called us once, we have to call him if we want to know what's going on! Crazy hey! Re: Building in Brooks Reach - Community Thread 4320Apr 16, 2015 3:20 pm Yeah it is a bit. How often do you call? I feel like I'm harassing them but if I don't call them then yeah they don't call me and I don't know what's happened when. My roof was put on last Thursday but I don't think anything else has happened in the week since it's gone on. Trevelle is deathly slow.
