Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Homes in Mallala, SA - Gyprock done 321May 27, 2014 6:02 pm Hi Greg, Tasha has had a rough time too, with electricity and delays. We also signed in January 2013 and are still waiting. Our PCI date is 17 June but they are only tiling and painting now. There are unfortunately a number of us on here who have had build times of 7-8 months. I haven't met any others that signed as long ago as we did though! What took yours so long to get to and through council? It look so much different clean and no wrapping. I will PM you about what we did when things got to this stage _lucinda Love the tiles, splashback and benchtop. Everything looks lovely. Hope they get a move on so that you can start packing. I notice that in our area, new builds are starting, but there does seem to be a slow down of places that I would have expected to be finished by now--perhaps there's an overall shortage of tradies holding things up. tristam oh it looks fantastic!!!!! I love your kitchen too!!!!! Sorry to hear they have gone over your date, that is so disheartening for you. Hope they come to the party soon. Sorry I just love your kitchen!!!! LOL deluxes That splashback is really lovely Tasha... You're on the home stretch now Looking good!! Thanks everyone. I am mostly happy with it Do you love my kitchen Tammy because apart from colours it is identical to yours? jennifer80 It is all looking very nice, just frustrating time-wise. What are our rights in the contract when they go over PCI (or 120 days plus Christmas break), as we are very similar to you, just no tiling yet either. 3 weeks since kitchen and only 1 day of work on site, started tiling, then disappeared for all of this week.... Did they go over PCI for you as well FairmontSACustom? This is really bad? I am a law student and I have no idea I did read the contract but I can't remember and Mick has it with all his papers for the house at work. Greg Quick Glad your build is going well. Cant say my fairmont experience has been the greatest... We signed a contract on 31Jan2013 as of today 27May2014 the brick work is still not complete. About August 2013 my wife phoned the council to find out why it was taking so long to get approval. The council told my wife they approved our plans over a month earlier, fairmont didn't even get in touch to tell us! Fairmont job#84639 Not to be rude but while I sympathise, are you for real? jennifer80 How are things going at your end? After they put the tapware, half the built in robe, and towel rails in etc the painter didn't return until last Thursday. Not sure if he worked Friday because Ella had a pupil free day but the neighbours tell me he was there Monday and he has stuck around all week. My mum popped in yesterday when she picked Ella up because I was doing an exam and said that he had done all the ceilings and door frames. He is working on his own so it is going slowly but it is happening so I'm pretty happy about that. We did get a letter from Fairmont yesterday with our final bill to give to the bank letting us know handover was coming up and we needed to organise things like insurance so the bank will hand over final payment so that is a good sign! 1Sharphook2 Hi Tash..I have been following your build as we are building with Fairmont (still waiting for council app)I must say I am not filled with confidence..I really hope you have quick action to complete your beautiful house...Thank you for sharing your build with everyone...you have opened our eyes to many areas...All the best! Glad I could help. In all seriousness though it isn't all bad on my build apart from the long long time it is taking. That is just the focus of my attention. There is good parts. I am very happy with the quality. We have had a building inspector in and he has picked up on very little. So far I only have one thing I need to bring up at PCI which is a big blob of plaster stuck on one of my kitchen cupboards (if it hasn't been removed by then) and as we did our electricity and had to access the house to do it I have a key so I have had a lot of time to wander around uninterrupted checking it all out. Everything else I don't like is from either my own inexperience or my other half not liking to open his wallet because he wanted to stay under budget. For instance, I am not in love with my toilets. They're ok but I should have put my foot down, same with my tapware. I should have put a corner shelf on my overheads so that it went up to the bulkhead and I probably should have put a nice mosaic tile on my splashback because I didn't think about that bend in that wall for the bay window and that join looks not so great. The good news is that it is my first house, not my last and I have certainly learnt from the experience. Building the Leabrook with Fairmont Homes in Mallala, SA. On the weekend we went shopping in preparation for the impending move. Got a new toy box for the little man and bookshelves for the kids, Ella has herself a new bedside and tallboy, a couch I have had my eye on for over a year, a magnificent 15 place dishwasher and microwave (stainless steel Westinghouse that matches perfectly with our Westinghouse oven and rangehood) and the rest of our lights. I was pretty happy with that, gave me some excitement. Then I went past the house this morning and there were 3 vans out the front. I have never seen so much action there. Then I got a call from our site supervisor in the afternoon saying the painter had finished inside, the aircon/heating was going in today and the cleaners were there too. THEN the most exciting news of all....... we are booked in for PCI next Wednesday! I don't think I need to explain my excitement right now. I can't wait! Went past this afternoon and it all looks so good. Was awesome seeing my kitchen benches without the dusty plastic on them. I have pictures of everything. I will post them up later tonight. My computer pooped itself and I'm waiting for my dad to take me computer shopping cause he knows about that stuff. Thank god it's uni holidays. Just popping past to say PCI went without a hitch. They had gotten the plaster off the cupboard. Only things wrong was 1 paint touch up, a join between kitchen bench and wall needs to be fixed up and our hand towel holder is missing in our bathroom. It took a long time but the quality of workmanship, I can't really fault. An upside to the wait. Best of all, handover is booked for Monday (happy dances all round here). Really looking forward to getting in there and painting up the feature walls in the bedrooms and bathroom and tiling Building the Leabrook with Fairmont Homes in Mallala, SA. No major issues other than the concrete driveway, a few small ones like missing towel rails and taps and the bathroom mirror! The workmanship looks generally very good, just wishing they hadn't done my concrete. Glad to hear yours also went well. They are not too reliable with towel rails LOL.
