Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 03, 2019 12:32 pm Hi, We're getting pretty close to handover with our build, but we realised one oversight was not planning for an integrated or built in dishwasher. We've just got a ~640mm wide opening for a freestanding dishwasher to slide into, but what's involved in making the space ready for a built-in dishwasher to be fitted? Presume we'd need a cabinet maker to come out after handover? Any advice or tips? Thanks in advance! For the dishwasher we bought, we have the option on anchoring it to the floor, or fitting a piece of timber (matching the cabinets) at the front and anchoring it to that. Nothing else needed. Re: Dishwasher Recess / Built-In 3Jan 03, 2019 2:18 pm If you want a semi or fully integrated dishwasher you will need a cabinetmaker to do up the front panel & kick plate. But most integrated dishwashers need a 600mm wide recess so you will have a 20mm gap each side, might be able to get away with it going fully integrated as you can have the panel made 640mm wide which will just be visible when opened. Re: Dishwasher Recess / Built-In 4Jan 04, 2019 12:53 pm I've intentionally steered clear from integrated dishwashers, worried about what happens if there are issues or changing it later down the track. Easy as to switch out a freestanding one, but an integrated one seems it'd require more effort to do so? There is no big difference apart from 4-6 screws holding the integrated version to the rest of the cabinet but integrated/semi integrated will look a lot nicer. They are more costly as you need to get custom made kickers and cabinets to match rest of the kitchen. However, changing these integrated dishwashers is no more difficult than freestanding.
