How awful and made worse by their unhelpfulness. I hope you can get it sorted and also hope that like our build you might get a surprise and they squeeze your frame in somehow before xmas. Re: Fairmont Build @ Seaford Meadows SLABBED 142Dec 11, 2013 10:28 am I'm so sorry for your disappointment. Maybe a good thing because with the Christmas break coming up a slab with nothing else on it won't attract vandals as much as one with a frame on it. Re: Fairmont Build @ Seaford Meadows SLABBED 143Dec 11, 2013 3:46 pm I was going to say similar to Lucinda. A frame takes about 3 days to put up. I think that's better than sitting in the weather for up to 6 weeks, and then you'd be concerned the timber is too exposed. I don't think it's a bad thing. Re: Fairmont Build @ Seaford Meadows SLABBED 144Dec 11, 2013 10:18 pm I get your point Eli, but if the frame went up in the next two weeks it would only be 4 weeks before they'd be back to work, and as it is not winter we were honestly not that concerned - we are happy that windows won't be in though. And if you've seen enough FM builds, plenty sit from frame to bricks for more than 4 weeks - thinking of Amy's build, but I've seen others, and I've seen a couple recently where the frame sat waiting to be put up for several weeks - I think that's worse, its laying on the ground getting damp if there is any moisture, so glad they're not delivering it and leaving it there. The way they are talking it won't be 3 days - the trades won't be back til end Jan, then the SS will order frame, then they'll deliver frame, then could sit for weeks because they have a backlog of work not getting done prior to Christmas shutdown. We are looking at 2-3 months from slab pour to frame, most people wouldn't be too thrilled with that. Yesterday was a particularly crappy day, not only the frame situation which is really not the major issue, but the flooding of our block, falling down of the adjoining fence and washing away of foundations under the fence. Re time frames it is really hard to predict as so many factors. The build process seem to be highs and lows and riding that wave without getting too caught up is tough. Our build seems to be fits and starts, there are weeks with nothing and then suddenly the house is full of people and heaps gets done. The trades I think will be keen to get back to work. I have spoken to almost all our trades and most are happy to work as long as they can get supplies. Anyway fingers crossed if you don't see frame before xmas that ss has ordered to be delivered straight away in new year and the carpenters are on to it too. In the meantime you have my sympathies. I totally get where you are coming from being one of the slow builds. Re: FH Build @ SA SLABBED 146Dec 11, 2013 11:21 pm Hi FairmontSA, don't get me wrong, my SS hasn't done anything to delay things as far as I know, I believe it is purely the way the company operates - I actually think my SS was trying to push things along as everything was falling into place, so I'm not sure what happened between Friday and Monday for everything to change. My SS was also straight onto the flooding issue, but I have called him several times and sent messages regarding the issue since and he hasn't responded - nothing new according to others on here. The fact the trades are willing to work and they are not delivering the frame is very frustrating - as long as they are on to it quickly come January, we really don't mind too much - as I said in my response to Eli, yesterday was a crappy day because there was double bad news and so far this other builder is not co-operating to get the issue fixed. We just seem to have copped more than our fair share of crappiness with delays, and underquoting, but all of that was prior to going to site, so nothing to do with our SS. They have admitted too that they are a project builder and therefore communication is not a service they provide. We never hear from our ss and if I talk to the office they have no idea either. Anyway I could go on about my frustrations for days and you already know that you are not alone. I hope things look up for your build soon in particularly with the water and fencing issues. Re: Fairmont Build @ Seaford Meadows SLABBED 148Dec 12, 2013 9:13 am jennifer80 I get your point Eli, but if the frame went up in the next two weeks it would only be 4 weeks before they'd be back to work, and as it is not winter we were honestly not that concerned - we are happy that windows won't be in though. Yesterday was a particularly crappy day, not only the frame situation which is really not the major issue, but the flooding of our block, falling down of the adjoining fence and washing away of foundations under the fence. I missed where you were building sorry (edit: just saw seaford), but we were told that once the roof goes on, they let it sit on the frame for a number of weeks to allow any bows and flexes (from the weight) to be noticed and rectified. So even if the frame is up there is a chance you'd still be waiting another few weeks after the roof goes on. I guess I was trying to find a positive in it for you, considering the bad luck you have had. I know what the waiting is like, we just had handover and our stages were pretty much exactly the same as Amy's. Slab to timber to roof to bricks took a long time waiting, but then there was a lot of activity and finished quickly. It's really hard to sit there and watch slow progress, especially while other bad things are going on. I realise you're not asking my advice, and I know this forum is used primarily to share excitement and vent frustrations, but try to focus on the completion date only, rather than the stage timings. It will get there in time and you will save a few grey hairs in the process. FairmontSAcustom hit the nail on the head, riding the wave without getting caught up is very tough! I really hope your neighbouring builder takes responsibility for the water damage and you can get it sorted quickly and without any more stress. Re: FH Build @ SA SLABBED 149Dec 13, 2013 10:22 pm Thanks Eli, it's definitely a roller coaster and I am struggling to enjoy the highs as I always feel like a low is on its way. Just started to enjoy the high of the slab and let my guard down to let myself be excited. The biggest thing now is getting the other builder to fix their damage to our block. Can anyone recommend an installer? We are looking for a quality job (no more stuff ups needed!) that will last. Thanks for your help.
