Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 17, 2008 6:02 pm Hi Guys
Im am building in Perth, WA. Need some advice on the house eaves. The roof carpentry was finished about 3 weeks ago and then the eaves and gutters were put on shortly after. The roof cover has only just been put on and in the time in between there has been rain and I noticed the eaves were some what discoloured. I am concerned about water damage, should I be? What is the normal procedure for putting on the roof cover in terms of timing with the eaves, should it be done a little closer together? Im I worrying about nothing. The roof went on Tuesday this week the day before it started absolutely belting down last night, but there was a day or two light rain over the last few weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys Re: Eaves + Water = ? 2Apr 17, 2008 6:34 pm If the eaves are your typical fibre cement board, then I don't think you've got too much to worry about! The use the fibre cement because it's got a certain amount of water resistance... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Sheets should not be fixed into position before the roof covering is installed and made watertight. When designing and planning, ensure no water can enter the eaves or ceiling or soffit cavity, either during or after construction. Residual moisture or ponding on the back of eaves or soffit sheeting can cause damage to paint applied to the underside, including blistering, loss of adhesion, etc. http://www.jameshardie.com.au/products/ ... Manual.pdf Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out… 7 4627 The two 15mm holes are obviously not compliant. The Dept of Fair Trading would love to see this one! Do the gutters pool water after it stops raining? Although it's… 4 3916 18 74802 |
