Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 14, 2013 11:51 am I thought I'd ask a question, would be interested to know how long the whole process, from thoughts of 'let's build a house' to moving in take you? For us it's been ridiculous - decided to build early 2010 and took till end of 2010 to be financially ready, land found Feb 2011 purchased April 2011, over a year of looking at display's, found builder /display we liked April 2012, Feb 2013 and we are waiting building permit. Expected completion early 2014! Signed the contract for our block a few weeks later, and signed with our builder early 2012. Land settled in March; construction began in May and we moved in to our new house in October 2012. From making the decision to handover was less than 12 months! Re: How long was your whole process for you? 4Feb 14, 2013 1:02 pm This is my third build 1st Build - Purchased the Block in April 2003, with titles ready to go. Settlement was 14 days - found a house the first weekend we started looking seriously (had a good idea what we were after and the builders we wanted to use. Told them that we MUST be in by December 2005, moved in late November 2003 2nd Build - Purchased block March 2006 - 24 months arguing with council to get 1 tree removed, building started April 2008. Hand over November 2008. Took another 2 weeks to get flooring and carpets put in, so we moved in just before Christmas 3rd Build (current) - Purchase the block in August 2012, planning permits approved Jan 2013. Expecting Building Permits to be approved by March - April. Hoping to be in by December 2013. Re: How long was your whole process for you? 5Feb 14, 2013 1:34 pm Exactly 1 year ago to the day I paid the deposit on a block of land. Today I am approx 10 days away from handover, so whole process basically 1 year Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57639 Re: How long was your whole process for you? 6Feb 14, 2013 4:04 pm We purchased our block in 2006 and we are about 1 week from handover for our new home. There was a lot at play here though as it took us around 3.5 years to sell our old house. The build process has been around 1 year with 6 months of pre-construction planning and around 6 months of building. Re: How long was your whole process for you? 7Feb 14, 2013 9:13 pm We bought our block last June and hope to be in mid May. Re: How long was your whole process for you? 9Feb 14, 2013 9:40 pm We made an offer on our land in nov 2009, completed on land Feb 2010, DA approved Sep 2010, builder ran into difficulty and we finally cut our losses with them in May 2011 (just before they went under), found a new builder, refinanced and recommenced build in Nov 2011 and finally moved in September 2012. We paused the project for 12mths. Commenced having plans designed in July 2012. Floor plan finalised December 2012. We are now waiting on the building permit. Re: How long was your whole process for you? 12Feb 14, 2013 11:05 pm In April 2011 we found the house we were going to buy put in the offer and engaged the designers straight away. Finished the designs October 2011 and submitted to council for DA. March 2012 got DA approval, June got building approval, July started demo and building. House should be finished in April 2013 if all goes to plan.
