For a similar spec house (320 sqm and display spec) would it be cheaper to use a large building company like dale Alcock or would it be better to take some draft plans to a smaller private type builder. Any advice would be good for us as we are first time builders. I guess we are looking at price mainly. This means they are generally cheaper for the same quality than small builders, for basic houses, unless they have to travel a long way from their normal area of operations. Drive around new estates and look at the signs on the safety fences of lots with construction activity. You will probably see a proportion of builds by builders/companies you haven't heard of before. This can make you some savings and you can get what you really want at a price you choose rather then having to choose from standard selections.
