I did go round later but I ended up cleaning, unfortunately I didn't get the best electrician out there, the guy that came out last week seemed fine, we discussed what lights were going where and then when it came to do the job, he sent his 2 x apprentices round to do it, I'm not discriminating because we all have to learn sometime but they took ages to fit the lights, then they dented walls, put scrapes on door trims, drilled a hole in the ceiling for a light and it was in the wrong place, so now that needs patching and to top it off they put lights in the wrong places - so today I told them not to come back! The kids bedroom lights are not fitted yet and our bathroom lights are in the wrong place, instead of installing a heat lamp they put in an led light and didn't put led's over the sinks as I had requested. I have another electrician coming out tomorrow to hook up our ATU/septic system (previous electricians didn't know how to do it) and if he seems alright then I get him to finish off our lights. I'm going to post a question in the lighting section, but I'll ask here anyway, does anyone know if there should be a delay in flicking the switch to the lights coming on. I turn the lights on but there's a delay until they actually come on Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I love the lights but think they're a bit too close together, I think I might get them redone further apart. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Lights 445Aug 07, 2013 1:58 pm I think it all looks gorgeous. The black detailing in the lights and the island and the window frames are just awesome. I like the positioning of the lights. If you've never had energy saving lights before, they can certainly have a delay before they switch on. They also tend to get a bit brighter over the first few seconds they are on. I thought new technology was making this better but I think the delay is still there. Can I ask, how high are your ceilings? And what colour is on your walls? It all looks lovely. (I think I will use your picture to explain how I want the bulkheads in my kitchen, that's why I'm asking about ceiling height. ) Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Lights 446Aug 07, 2013 2:00 pm The lights look great Sorry to hear you are not happy with the electrician - it's so disappointing when you pay someone to do a job and they don't do it right! I think the lights are a good spacing if you just look at the bench, but when you look at the room as a whole they do look a little too close together. It's so hard to know what's best What type of lights have the delay? I asked hubby if there should be a delay and his answer was "sometimes" After more probing I have now discovered that any type of fluro will have a delay but all other lights shouldn't. We have delays on certain energy light globes in the house. Other globes come on instantly others don't. Hope you get better electrician Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Lights 448Aug 07, 2013 2:38 pm I'm glad you all think the spacing is fine, maybe I'm starting to over think everything my husband would probably think so. EmyN - Ceilings are 31course and the colour is Solver Snow White - I know what you mean about the bulkhead I nit picked this with the designer and double checked at prestart because I wanted the bulkhead flush with the cabinets and its turned out exactly how I wanted it. soakedblonde What type of lights have the delay? I asked hubby if there should be a delay and his answer was "sometimes" After more probing I have now discovered that any type of fluro will have a delay but all other lights shouldn't. They delay is with all the led lights in the house, its about 2-2.5 seconds, I'm noticing it because we don't have led's in the rental, the delay seems longer if I'm turning on a cold light, if I turn off a light and turn it back on it comes on slightly faster. We did get the lights wired to a power point rather than hard wired - not sure if this was the right thing to do? LeanneR - Thanks You'll all be impressed I'm writing this from our new garage, I currently have a plumber digging to connect up our septic system, so I'm currently amongst sawdust, timber floors and pavers Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Lights 449Aug 07, 2013 3:06 pm Haha cute about the garage workstation. Well I wish I had good news today, but it seems the house just keeps throwing us bad I had a plumber come around today to hook up our ATU/septic so toilets could be flushed, well he came, he dug, he found the sewer pipe and discovered that the fall from pipe to ATU is not enough which means either of the following: 1). The ATU gets dug up, the hole gets dug an extra 50mm deep and the ATU is put back again. 2). Our plumbing pipes get dug up all around the house to see if the fall can be adjusted to lift the pipes by 50mm. Either way costs $$$$ and the other problem is, if we pay to dig up all the plumbing pipe and find it can't be lifted 50mm then we still need to get the ATU lifted and the hole dug bigger. How did this problem occur....well when the sewer pipes were laid the plumbers marked the end with a long pipe sticking out of the ground, hubby and I didn't know what this was for but I said to leave it in case its important. Someone towards the end of the build removed the pipe but I remembered where it was. Fast forward to the day ATU was laid, the ATU man didn't know where the sewer pipe ended, he didn't tell me that it was usually marked by a pipe out of the ground, I phoned the builder they sent through the con plan (plan of where sewer pipes were laid) I emailed this to ATU man from my iphone and he said he had a computer in the car and he would look at it - I left thinking it was all under control. Turns out he didn't check the plan and instead he dug up a hole further up the plumbing line to find the level (don't know why he didn't dig closer to the end of the pipe) anyway the levels he took weren't enough and now he's blaming the builder saying they laid the plumbing pipes with too much of a drop. AAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And basically we can't move into the house without working toilets - I could fight this but I'm all out of fight, I think this is going to cost around $2500-3000 to fix. Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Septic problems 454Aug 07, 2013 7:37 pm So sorry to hear what's happened!! Why don't contractors just do the right thing?! How hard is it to ask questions or spend a little more time to start with to save time in the long run!! I hope it can be sorted out!! If you provided the ATU man with the plan but he didn't bother to look at it, surely he should be responsible for putting it right? If it would have cost more to dig deeper at the time then I can understand him charging this but the extra work involved in digging the ATU up should be covered by him. Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Septic problems 459Aug 08, 2013 12:09 pm My husband has been to have a talk with the ATU man this morning, ATU man wants to dig up 7 metres of our plumbing pipe and re-lay it so the fall meets the unit. I told my husband I was against this move, I'm worried that if we do this the plumbing may work nicely for 3 months but what happens when we get some visitors, toilets get used a bit more and then boom - blockage! At this point digging up the ATU would be a major job, as we'd have to disconnect plumbing and electrics as well. I'm not willing to take that risk I just want it dug up and the hole dug deeper then we will know for sure we won't have any future plumbing problems. Additionally if we want the unit dug up we need to wait for clear weather...hmm so not today then So while the rain is great for gardens I desperately need a few clear days to get this sorted! And as I am writing this the rain is coming down faster than ever!!! Not sure at this stage who's paying to dig it up, it looks like it'll be an extra $1k to do it through the ATU guy, which is better than 2.5k... Re: G3mmill Custom Build in Kalamunda, Perth-Septic problems 460Aug 08, 2013 12:35 pm So close yet so far... Hope the ATU can get sorted out quickly and you can get shire sign off. We'd had so many dramas with ours that I was dreading the shire inspection, luckily it passed. I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34338 6 55437 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point.
