It's very exciting seeing it all finally happen! We were slabbed on the 16th of Feb and still no bricks, I guess they give the slab a while to cure first which is a good thing 1rocky conslabulations Thanks all for the conslabulations! I'm slabbergasted at the slabalicious slab we now have! Haha Ok so we have some more action... We went to the block on Sunday and noticed that we now have power connected and window frames delivered! All go.... But unfortunately still no water connection/tap?! Then on Tuesday we had the storm water pipes and soakewlls installed in the morning and then the site scrape done in the afternoon. Unfortunately the bobcat driver was a little careless and has destroyed some pavement out the front of our house and also smashed up some of the newly placed storm water pipes as well as destroying some of the edges of the slab!! We have informed the construction manager and she is going to follow it up with our site supervisor. Then today we have had our bricks delivered... There seems to be heaps! I'm sure they all have their place though. We are a little concerned that they have forgotten to deliver our acoustic maxi bricks!? We assumed they would look different or labeled differently to the standard bricks but can seem to find a difference between the other ones! Again will be in touch with the site supervisor! We are hoping the brickes will start end of this week or beginning of next week!! Exciting! It all seems to be happening very quickly now! Pictures!! So far only the soil report has come back and we are waiting for the plans to be drawn up. I must say their pre-sign up service was very professional compared to two other building companies we engaged at the same time. I hope to keep an eye out on your experience with Switch. Re: Switch Homes 2storey build Bassendean-BIG UPDATE! PICS+ 30May 01, 2013 8:52 pm Hi everyone! Sorry for the very long break in the updates... my fiancé and I were on holidays in Vietnam and Cambodia for almost a month! Fortunately we did not miss out on too much and my wonderful family kept us in the loop! I'll back date it all so you can all catch up! overall we are very happy with the quality of the build and the progress speed. All the tradies are being relatively clean onsite too so we are not having to pick up too many coke bottles and McDonalds bags!! 9/04/13 - Bricking started! http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u601/Kirsty010188/534236_10152733304045599_2004604359_n_zps065c7969.jpg http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u601/Kirsty010188/552970_10151361862398085_1030748651_n_zps3c8eea61.jpg http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u601/Kirsty010188/48024_10151361862163085_340136776_n_zps074ecb18.jpg 12/04/13 - Bricking completed (4 days?!?! - can you believe it?!) Unfortunately we paid extra for Acoustic bricks to be installed on the south facing walls of the house but unfortunately the brickkie team stuffed up and installed the bricks on the wrong wall (slightly annoyed!!), but we informed our site supervisor who was on to it straight away and had it corrected. Fortunately it then did not delay our house! We have been told that if we go with another supplier we will be charged a fee. We can't see anthing about this in the contract. Thanks Julie Hi Julie7, we are actually in the process or finalising the airconditioning now! We were planning on using another company as we (my fiance) wants a Breezeair system which Stinson air dont supply. My fiance is (meant!) to be chasing that up this week - when i know what we are doing i'll let you know. As far as i know there was no extra fee? I think you just have to make sure that you get your a/c person to draw up plans on your house plans where they plan on putting ducts and slab penetrations etc (if needed). sazzy91 Hi posting to follow your build as we just signed our PPA and paid our deposit with Switch. Hows it coming along now since the bricks were delivered? We like you only have a small block of 350 sqms. Hi sazzy91! how exciting!! we signed out PPA in June last year... so was about 8 months before we actually had any action on site! hopefully things will go a bit faster for you!! exciting times ahead! are you going to have a build thread? We did consider 101 homes, but our neighbours had built one of their houses, and unfortunately we found they they were a very characteristic style and that we didnt want our house looking the same! They have some fantastic styles and designs though!! mlb Hey KirstyMatt, We have signed up for a Switch2 Series in Bayswater just before Christmas. We are currently in drafting so hopefully we will go to site in June. We are building a modified Switch210. Your stairs look like ours! Re: Switch Homes 2storey build Bassendean-bricks delivered! 35May 04, 2013 12:04 pm Wow, that's amazing progress! It has given me some reassurance about building - first time builder. I noticed you mentioned Acoustic Bricks. I am surprised Switch has not told me about them. I've been hammering on about noise insulation and having double glazing and Hush Glass priced as an option because the Tonkin Hwy is not far from our block. Are you able to let me know how much extra Switch is charging for the acoustic bricks. Happy for you to PM me. Did you enjoy your trip to Vietnam and Cambodia? I've always wanted to go and see Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Any advice or tips? [sorry, if this is off topic - did you do a travel blog?] KirstyMatt Hi mlb, yay! another switch home! hahaah are you going to have a blog? where are you up to now? exciting times for you! We are building a modified Switch270. The majority of the mods involve moving the laundry, ground floor WC, creating a scullery space and resizing the rooms. We were told the first draft of the plans will be ready next week. There are some extra items I would like Switch to quote for variation;
Soil report wasn't positive. We have clay! Yes, Clay in Perth. So we need to decide whether to have it dug out or put 300mm of sand on top. If we chose to put sand on top we will have to put a retaining wall around the block ($$) - we have vacant land on both side of the property. Having read a number of building threads here and found it very informative, I like the idea of doing one for our build, but I am terrible at keeping stuff like up-to-date. The short answer is I am not sure. Re: Switch Homes 2storey build Bassendean-BIIG UPDATE! They have given us a final official completion date which is on the 25th March 2013!!! There unofficial completion date maybe December this year. I'm not holding my breath, ill believe it when I see it! We would love for the house to be done by the 5th October when we are getting married.... The short answer is I am not sure. We are first time builders too- it's abniiiiiig learning curve isn't it?! So many things to learn about! The acoustic bricks were included in the base house price as we added it in as soon as we were chatting to switch, we are also having many of the windows upgraded to vlam hush glazing to help reduce the notice. T be honest your windows are going to be the thing that will stop the noise the most, you are probably best to invest in better windows rather than upgrade the bricks, it we have done both anyway! If only our budget stretched to double glazing that would be wonderful! Trip to vietnam and Cambodia was amazing! Definitely worthwhile to do, in particular before it becomes too touristy! Unfortunately I didn't do a travel blog! I really want aloft for storage but we figured it will probably be cheaper to add it later down the track... Excellent idea though!! High door frames sound lovely! If I had known about this I probably would have done that too! It would only be $28 a door as bricks cost more than wood for a door We have 20mm essa stone, but I think that there is a significant price rise for 30mm.... We wouldn't afford it, but maybe you can bargain with switch?! Oh oh! Clay! Decisions decisions! Good luck!!! Re: Switch Homes 2storey build Bassendean-BIIG UPDATE! PICS 39May 06, 2013 2:14 pm Hi Kirstymatt Have been following your build. Very interesting with the second slab forming the roof/ 1st floor flooring. Is this a common way of doing it ?
