Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 04, 2013 11:53 am Hi guys, we are getting the keys to our new home in a weeks time. The cleaners have been through and it looks just OK. I mean there is still muddy streaks all over the timber floors and the window cleaning is just so so. Same with the benchtops etc.... So I guess, what im asking is, what is acceptable or is this about it? Should or will it be spotless? or not? How was your place.....? Re: HANDOVER - How clean was your house? 2Feb 04, 2013 12:10 pm Mine was filthy at PCI and I told them I wasnt happy. If it is covered in crap you cant see all the imperfections that the builder dont want you to see. Was still filthy at Handover so the final cheque stayed in my pocket. We tried again the following evening after they sent a team of six round to clean all next day. I am seriously considering just hiring a professional cleaner to come through and do a thorough job, rather than wasting my own time. It shoudl be pretty straightforward, since it'd likely all be dusting and wiping. Since there won't be any furniture in if you get in early, I'm not overly worried about inviting some stranger in - reckon it's worth it (and if so, worth how much - what would a cleaner charge?) Would it be easier than bothering with the argument they might come back with - that they claim it's "clean enough"? Or would hired help just do an equivalent job? You might find that a cleaner would charge this as a builders clean and they are quite expensive. I work for a small builder and we have a lot of trouble finding people that will actually do builders cleans, as they are usually quite hard work. However, in saying that, I expect that houses are clean when we pay for the cleans to be done, and they are not cheap to get cleaned. I will often make the cleaners come back and re-clean the house if I am not happy with the standard, or if the client is not happy. If you are not happy Tengals, I would get the builder to get the cleaners back.
