Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 03, 2013 10:34 am Hi All First time post but been around for a while learning so much on this great forum. We are in the process of doing our tender with wisdom homes and are required to go through wollongong council for approval. We have a copy of the minimum standards for building with wollongong council and note that it says for a minimum internal garage size of 6mx6m. Our current plans and most plans I have seen have an internal garage size of about 5.5mx5.5m. Can anyone please give me their experience who went with wollongong council and if they were able to get around this without having to spend about $10,000 to extend the house to accomodate for an extra 0.5m either way in the garage? Thanks Re: Wollongong Council Garage Requirements 2Feb 03, 2013 4:39 pm The building company’s plan for our house had the garage at 5800 x 5630. When we received the draft plan they had increased it to 5800 x 6000 and the quote stated:- Current Garage dimensions are subject to Council approval. 6.0m x 6.0m Garage as required by Council has not been provided due to inability to construct roof without the use of a pitching beam, bulkhead and reduced eave to side of Garage. Note. The next plan had the garage at 6000 x 6000 and the new quote read:- Increase Garage to 6.0m x 6.0m internally as required by Wollongong City Council providing pitching beam, bulkhead and reduced eave to side of Garage. $1,600. Don’t like your chances of getting it any smaller.
