Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 02, 2013 11:39 pm HI guys, I am building a double storey home which has a porch n the front of down floor but no balcony on the top. The roof of the porch is flat and has 1.62m * 1.45 m size and strong enough to stand or do things. From the first floor, there is a window which is just above the porch. If I convert this window to a door, can I build a small balcony on the top of the porch? There wont be any roof for the balcony. Does anyone have any balcony ideas for such a plan and an approximate cost. I am from Geelong, VIC! Thanks for the comments! Re: building a balcony 2Feb 03, 2013 7:47 am You standing on the roof isn't the same as 2-3 people plus some furniture on the balcony. You need to have a structural check before you go any further. Re: building a balcony 5Feb 10, 2013 8:35 pm Would definately go along with Bashworth's advice. Get it checked by an engineer, unless of course the builder is prepared to state in writing what load carrying capacity it has.
