Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 15, 2014 2:54 pm Hello
I thought i'd start my own thread while we are buidling. So far have loved following other people builds. If any one has any advice for me i'd appreciate it greatly. We are building with New Generation. Just want to know if its normal that I have not even personally met our site supervisor yet and we are nearly 3 months into the build. When bricks at plate height. Ours haven't been too flexible with meetings either but we have just made them early in the day or last thing (we both work about 45-60 mins from our build). I think we have only had 1-2 bits of unsolicited contact. It's not unreasonable to expect to have met your SS. We weren't given dates either / were only told this week ? Pci In 2-3 weeks. Goodluck! Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes South West 4Jan 15, 2014 4:59 pm Hi I am nearing PCI and haven't met once with my SS so don't worry about it too much. Any problems and I contact them and/ or my CLO. I am still at the Pre start stage. How has the experience been for all of you? Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 6Feb 05, 2014 2:32 pm Sorry for no updates or replies lately. Will get some photos up when I have a spare moment. Why does building a house feel like its a part time job? Would love to run a situation past anyone who is willing to give me advice. Before i start I need to say that this is one of many issues we have been having. Yesterday I went to the house to check it out and finally meet with the site supervisor, because we were not happy with his service. So i met him there had a chat, he left and i took the time to have a real good look at the roof cover and noticed some of the work looked not quite right, so i emailed him some photos just asking if there is a reason they did it this way and is there a way it can look neater. His response was that "I will forward the photos to the roof plumber and he will respond to you"... Sorry but isnt that the his job!!!! to liase with trades? why should i be communicating with the roof plumber? Like i said this is one of many issues we have had with him. He leads us on with dates of trades being at the house and things being completed. He bascially threatned me yesterday to stop the build for 3 weeks because we are 3 weeks ahead of schedule (this is because we did not want to sign off on the paperwork to our bank to get them to release payment for roof cover until the roof is actaully finished). Everytime i call him which is not that often its like i am hassling him, when all i want to know is when we can expect to see progress or trades there. Didn't think it was too much to ask for, he is the face of Summit to us at the moment and at this stage I won't be recomending them based on the customer service we have received. Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 7Feb 05, 2014 3:09 pm You don't deserve that sort of a treatment. Alarm bells are ringing now. You may like to consider getting a building inspector too especially with the way your S/S is handling your build.

NG was our second choice builder and we have spoken with two sales consultant. One of their main selling point to me was "You will have direct access to your S/S who will genuinely look after your build and attend directly to your concern(s) if any". Ashlk, looks like it's time to bring this to the attention of higher ups of NG! Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 9Feb 05, 2014 4:14 pm Where are you building ashlk? We builts with NG and had a good overall experience, we also have a family friend who is SS in the Baldivis area for Summit/New Generation Homes. Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 10Feb 05, 2014 4:21 pm We are building in the Southwest region. We know someone that built with NG and had a good experience in Bunbury so that helped us make our decision but they had a different SS. I'm considering taking this higher, just in shock at the moment of how we have been treated. I know what level of service we should be experiencing and we have not even come close to that. New generation homes or Ventura for southwest WA? 11Feb 10, 2014 11:48 pm Hi all! It's really nice to be part of this this group. I get a lot of tips and information. You see, we are first home builders. We have to options, NG and Ventura. But we don't want to bee stressed as it's supposed to be an enjoyable journey right? Anyway, has someone experienced Ventura and NG in the southwest? Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 12Feb 11, 2014 12:22 pm That doesn't sound good, we built with NG in Hammond Park and had a really good SS. The first time I ever met him was at the PCI and my partner only ever spoke to him on the phone but we were so happy with everything there was never a reason to need to meet with him. I imagine when things aren't done well it would be difficult with any builder. Hopefully you get it worked out soon so it doesn't hold anything up. Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 13Feb 11, 2014 1:17 pm We had a problem with our roof last week where 3 of the hips were all on different pitches when they should all line up. I'm not sure how to up load a photo using this forum on a phone to show you buy we are building the same house as you Felicity and say if you were standing looking at your hips from the side of the garage all 3 didn't line up. Site supervisor said it was normal but after speaking to his fellow site supervisors they decided it was not right and are now going to fix it for us. That means removing roof sheets etc as it is a structural thing. It was only picked up by another roof chippy on the site next down the road from us. So we met our SS on site and I have to say finally we had some comfort in knowing the place was getting looked after and were reassured he had it under control. It was all the little things that added up at the start just simple communication, a few things he shouldn't of said to me that made me feel like he was brushing me off. but I have to say if you get the chance to meet your SS and put a face to the name and run through the schedule of the build it puts your mind at ease! Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 14Feb 11, 2014 1:39 pm I would recommend NG based on quality apart from the whole roof issue but at least it's getting fixed. We are very happy with everything else. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't rush anything and ask questions when unsure at the start prevents heartache down the track. As for SS he probably could of handled dealing with our build better, have received an apology and he is really trying now. I think the worst thing is us feeling like our house was neglected in the way trades work being checked. The whole roof issue could of been avoided and the fact the roof sheeters didn't pick up on it either but in the end it's going to get fixed with no delays to the build time so we are happy. Re: Builidng with New Generation Homes 15Feb 12, 2014 10:27 pm Hi Ashlk, Good to hear you getting your roof sorted out now, will be following your build thread, as we are also building with Summit. Hopefully things run smoother the rest of your build. We are at contract stage at this moment. Well, I have read lot of feedback on NewGen and it was quite good. Based on your issues with roof , now I am also planning to involve the independent inspector from the starting of the build stage. BTW, we have signed NewGen Fast Track promotion and building Sutherland design (it is called as The Minerva currently).
