Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 31, 2013 1:38 pm Hi The electrician has been out wiring up our new house, and I'm very dissatisfied with the quality of the powerpoint and light switches. They are an odd brand (obviously cheapies), I can't remember what the brand was. The problem is the cover plates are flexing quite a bit, and don't seem to be clipped in at all around the cutout in the middle of the switch / power point. You can clearly see the cover plate sits above the power plug in some places, and flush with it in other places. The plates are clipped in fully around the edges, but they don't sit flush with the grid in the middle. The worse affected are the single light switches, where if you touch the plate below / above the switch, it will move about 2-3mm. I'm wondering if I should not these as defects, as I am certainly not satisfied with the quality and look of these switches. - Murray Re: Off-brand light switch and powerpoint covers 2Jan 31, 2013 1:46 pm You have the right to expect that materials used and workmanship are to Australian Standards. Record the brand and ask the electrician the source of the material (I assume you are OB), if not then deal with the builder then google the manufacturer. There is a lot of sub standard material imported and you can't be too careful. Theres a lot of cheap outpets and switches out there, I had a box of ten power outlets and three were faulty straight out of the box (switch mechanisms were broken). Clipsal, HPM or PDL are my preference; also in five years time odds on you can still get the same style of fitting for extras later on. Re: Off-brand light switch and powerpoint covers 5Feb 04, 2013 2:35 pm Our house has clipsal slimline S2000 series and they also feel cheap. The bezel on some of them doesn't clip in fully leaving a rattly bezel. I guess there is cost cutting all round with all manufacturers.
