Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 28, 2013 8:48 am Apologies if this is a dumb question - I've tried searching, but haven't come across the answer. We are doing a knockdown rebuild with Porter Davis. My question is - do I need to maintain buildings insurance during the period of the build, or do PD insure the property during the construction period? To complicate matters a little, my current policy (buildings and contents) expires on the 31st January, and we don't move out to the rental until 2nd Feb - so I need coverage on contents for 48 hours. Also we won't demolish for another 4 to 6 weeks - so I need to arrange buildings cover over that period (at least). Anyone got any experience / advice on the best way to handle this? Re: Buildings insurance on knockdown / rebuild 2Jan 28, 2013 2:56 pm Hi Your construction will be covered by the builders insurance (make sure you request a copy of the cert at contract signing) and then you'll need to organise home insurance after handover. If you just renew your current expiring policy, you can cancel it when you're ready and the insurance company will refund you the rest of the policy.
