We're working to NSW CDC (Complying Development) rules though, changing our approach so we're working to council rules introduces a whole new level of pain in a billionty other areas 'cos we've had everything else about the house spec'd to CDC rules. CDC rules can't be varied, it's not like council where it has to go through a committee who may or may not decide to allow you some leeway (the flipside being that there's no committee to tell you that sure you've met their requirements but they don't like the particular shade of lilac you intend to apply to one of the light-fittings in your rear porch so you'll need to redesign everything).
