Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 15, 2008 12:17 pm Hi Guys,
Hoping you can help. We have signed up with PD to build our house and it was suggested by friends that i should arrange my own indipendant inspector. Just wondering what other people have done or did you just rely on the inspector provided by the builder. Can you recommend any good insprectors i can contact? I know PD use BSS (building surveying services) which are meant to be good but im not sure. Any advise is appreciated. Re: Indipendant Inspector 2Apr 15, 2008 12:24 pm Hi snistr
There's been a lot of threads recently regarding inspectors, and a number of members have used and recommended Kevin from New Home Inspections. Website is http://www.newhomeinspections.com.au/. Re: Indipendant Inspector 3Apr 15, 2008 12:28 pm I used BSS in Essendon for the contract stage, foundation, and frame stage inspections about 7 years ago, my brother also used them for his house in Macleod this year. I would highly recommend them but they were working directly for me.
They were particularly useful at the contract stage and helped in developing contract amendments that level out the playing field a little. Fortunately, our builder was reasonably good and not too many issues popped up.... Although there may be a positive of not using a inspector "connected" to your builder...but I'm cynical and jaded! mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Indipendant Inspector 4Apr 15, 2008 12:33 pm If you want your building inspected then you need to organise your own inspector. Also, make sure it's not the same inspection company that your builder uses.
If you were going to court against your builder, would you use their laywer Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Indipendant Inspector 5Apr 15, 2008 12:40 pm We found BSS very good at putting stickers where a minor touch-up was required but not so good at identifying bigger problems!!! (or maybe they did and PD ignored them)

(pre-plaster and handover) I second that, snister we're so happy/relieved that we had Kevin come through for a frame/pre-plaster check. We will definitely have him back pre-handover with no hesitations. And probably for our 1 yr maintenance check too. If you contact him, let him know you're from the Homeone Forum too! I would send it to the certifier who is technically your representative and working on your behalf not the builder's 1 2267 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45547 If you already have a contract, is the inspection cost stated in there? If not they would be forced to issue you a variation which you could of course object to. 12 25866 |
