Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 23, 2013 4:57 pm Hi all, Thought I'd finally join in the fun seeing as I drove past our block this morning and the footings/prelay were being done, and we have been informed our slab is going down tomorrow Myself and fiance have decided to go with 'the gallery' by Gemmill, we signed way back in April but due to our plans being wrong a few times, we are only at slab stage now. Not to worry though, they have started, so its all up up up from here I have attached a couple of pics to give you the gist of things, first one is obviously just a snap from phone...sorry, and second one is a stalker type photo but you get whats going on Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Build Timeline: Jan 16th - block cleared and compacted Jan 17th - toilet and rebar delivered Jan 23rd - prelay and footings Jan 24th - SLABBED!!! We didnt really see much place for storage, so decided on trying to create a small store room to (hopefully) keep some of our things, although this is only our first house so we dont have much stuff...yet, I'm a hoarder so I'm sure it will build up, and fast Building Gemmill's 'The Gallery' Full Timeline On Page 1 Jan 16th - block cleared and compacted Jan 24th - SLABBED!!! Mar 2nd - BRICKS COMPLETE!!! Mar 11th- Roof started Re: Our Gemmill Home 4Jan 23, 2013 5:37 pm It builds up very fast My house at the moment is tiny (about a 1/3rd of the size of the new place) with absolutely zero storage and it drives me crazy not being able to hide things away. I may have gone a little overboard with storage in the new place but I think it is very important... hubby just thinks its going to give me an excuse to buy more stuff Have they given you an estimated build time? Our sales person said 6-7 months from slab down but I haven't been told anything from the construction side. Bit of a long story with us two, we had a long distance relationship between here and Ireland (I'm Irish, fiance Aussie) for 5 looonnggg years, then 2 years ago I moved here with my parents and brother, so it held us up actually moving out for all that time. So now just the thoughts of finally having our own place make my giggle like a little girl lol. And yes I'm sure I will build up a lot of junk and things I wont need very fast hehe. I think they had told us around 26 weeks from slab down, but I have seen them go up both a lot faster and much slower, so I'm not holding my breath. Although any slight changes and I immediately start getting over excited that it'll be ready sooner than I'm expecting...and they havent even started brickwork yet lol. We have an on site meeting with SS on Tuesday morning to meet him and for him to give us some info I guess So maybe he'll give us a better estimate. One of the brickies we have nominated ourselves and he has already said he'd be working whatever he could, thats a good sign I guess Building Gemmill's 'The Gallery' Full Timeline On Page 1 Jan 16th - block cleared and compacted Jan 24th - SLABBED!!! I'd assumed it was a Gemmill thing but maybe it depends on the supervisor Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: Our Gemmill Home 7Jan 24, 2013 9:56 am Yeh it must do, I think our SS's name is James...but we were told it was not a cumpulsory meeting by our CLO and that our next meeting would be plate height...then tiles then PCI..but I didnt want to miss out on the chance, also I drove by this morning and the slab was being poured, yipeeeeeee I'll put a pic up tomorrow! On another note, what kinds of colours are you doing in your main areas? I'm a bit worried as we have a huge limestone wall at the back of our house, which is probably going to block out A LOT of light, so scared its going to be very dull and dreary So I was hoping if I do everything light and airy it might open it all up a bit...but I'm no expert, and good ideas? I dont even think we would room for a shed out the back, its quite a small block so we're already trying to think of ways to create a nice area out there without it looking squashed, so the store was very good idea for us Yes everyone comments on the en suite too, thank you, I cant wait to see it all come together, I loved the one in the display home, so I picked colours that were similar...I'm hoping ours looks as luxurious as it did in there Building Gemmill's 'The Gallery' Full Timeline On Page 1 Jan 16th - block cleared and compacted Jan 24th - SLABBED!!! I haven't really thought much about paint colours for the inside of the house but will probably end up going with some type of warm grey. I have tried to stick more with greys than browns with the tiles, cabinets, etc but we are having jarrah hardwood floors so I will need to find a paint colours that work with both I think I will probably end up getting a colour consultant in to see what they think as I have had zero experience in interior decorating You have a lot of glass at the back of your house so it may not be as dark as you think it will Sorry, I'm pretty useless with these types of things Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: Our Gemmill Home 12Jan 24, 2013 12:12 pm Thank you!!! And I have just had a call to say the soakwells are there too, they mean business! A warm grey sounds perfect to go with your floors! Its amazing how many different tones there are, from blue to green to brown tones and still look 'grey', if that makes sense It'll look fabulous! I hope you're right about the light coming in through the windows, thats what we were told by others too, I just always fear the worst though lol Building Gemmill's 'The Gallery' Full Timeline On Page 1 Jan 16th - block cleared and compacted Jan 24th - SLABBED!!! When we were trying to pick our render colour I discovered that the supposed greys looked pink, purple, green, blue, brown and pretty much any colour other than grey It really makes things hard I think you will get plenty of light in - I remember being in display homes that had big limestone walls at the back and they never really felt dark. I think it is really hard to pick paint colours before the house is done because the paint will always look slightly different in the different environment. Good news on the soakwells Hanging out to see pics of your slab.... in homeone land, it's not real until there are pics to prove it Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: Our Gemmill Home 15Jan 25, 2013 12:40 pm Yipeeeee here it is, our fab pad Dont mind the shot of me, I text other half to send a pic and he sends the only one out of loads with me Anyway, here it is, one before and one just taken yesterday... I asked him when eh thinks we will be in, as I'm sure everyone does, and he said we are building at a good time, have a decent sized team and that he estimates our handover for June!
