Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 23, 2013 12:42 pm yay, woohoo, yipee, I can not contain my excitement about this. Over the past 7 years, with 3 previous failed attempts (with alot of lost $$ in the progress) we are finally building our new, much awaited family home!!!! Abit about myself and family is, well, we've had it hard, not as hard as some, but non-the-less hard!!! My husband and I bought our first block when i was 17, great right?, to get my foot in the door at such a young age. we married when i was 18 and had our son at 19, 3 months after his birth we finally moved in to our completed - minus landscaping- home!! Our house is a homestart home and is a total area of 121 square metres, which is ok for 1 child, except we've had two more...aaarrrggghhhhh 3 kids in this tiny home just doesn't work. My youngest daughter (3) shares a room with my middle daughter (5) and is in a toddler bed as there is no room to put her in a single bed, that's just one of the many reasons why this house is too small. We have previously bought another block, but our house wouldn't sell for the build so we had to cut our losses and sell the block, at a loss of $65,000. We have spent the last 6 years trying to recover from that loss and found ourselces getting deeper and deeper down THAT creek without a paddle. Our second attempt wasn't as bad, we had a block, put down deposit, and couldn't get finance approval!! we lost the deposit, and later found out our broker actually worked against us and applied for a second line of credit, knowing we would get declined!!! and last but not least we went to buy a display home around october 2012 and again, our broker told us we got declined, although i rang the bank and they told us the broker didn't even make an application for a loan on our behalf!! By now i've had enough!!! We were up THAT creek for a while with my husband in and out of (sub contracted) employment, still trying to make ends meet after the $65g loss, to the point of almost losing our house, worst feeling ever..............until................my husband got a job in the mines!!!! OMG was that a blessing!!! It has been the biggest sacrifice we've had to make, but it has paid off. We have found ourselves a new broker, who is an angel!! She has fought tooth and nail to get us to this point and we are so grateful!!! Our beautiful 576s/m block in Piara waters is due to settle on 31/1, our deposit is paid to the builder and we can keep our house we are in while we build then put it on rent after we move in!!!! As you can imagine I never thought I would see us at this point, but by some miracle it has happened. We have made all the major changes to our plan and i have already (through excitement) picked some of my colours!! I like to use the excuse, my husband works away so I need to start picking colours now, hahahaha I would like your opinions on my picks so far and the plan but i'm unsure how to attach pics, so help would be grateful guys thanks for taking the time to read my story and if you're interested in following my journey, i'd be happy to share it with you!! I'm glad it's all starting to work out now, and you've chosen a nice area to build. I have a few colleauges building very near to piara waters (Southern River I think) and it seems like a lovely area. For uploading pictures, I find Photobucket is pretty good. You just need to create an account with them and then drag & drop photos onto it to upload. Then you can get a link from Photobucket to the photo and then past it into your post. It's pretty straightforward, and only took me about 10 mins to work it out I look forward to hearing more about your journey, and I hope everything goes well from now on! I also use photo bucket. Set up an account and upload you pictures, once you've done that if your still having trouble just ask (the later parts of including pictures is easier to understand once you have photobucket set up). I was a young Mum too and that bit certainly makes you grow up quickly, add all your other setbacks...it will only make you stronger and wiser and wonderful role models for your children going forward. You're both obviously really hard workers and this has now paid off for you. Piara Waters is lovely. Could easily live there. Enjoy your build, Re: finally building our new home, homegroup, piara waters 9Jan 23, 2013 10:41 pm Wow! What a story. I feel terrible that you had a dud for a broker. It's people like those that put others off using them which is sad. I'm glad you have someone now who is doing the right thing. Looking forward to following your build. My sister and BIL live in piara waters and love it and I'm working there and think it's a wonderful community. Re: finally building our new home, homegroup, piara waters 14Jan 27, 2013 5:57 pm There are two ways to follow people. One once you have posted in their thread they will then be listed under 'view your 'posts' link near the top right, when your logged in it will show you which posts you've commented on or created have new comments. There is also a star at the top left, next to the threads topic which you can click on, that one will email you if new comments are posted. I tend to use the first option, otherwise I was getting bombarded with emails. You will notice some people will say they are commenting on apost so they can follow it. Hope that helps. If you have any other problems just ask many of us have been in the same position at some point! I have been given an evil look on a number of ocasions for being on here too much!
