Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2064May 12, 2015 9:08 pm Hi all! My husband and I are looking into buying a piece of land and building with a builder. Has anyone moved into Googong yet? I am just wanting to find out if it's a nice place to live in so far? What's the traffic like to and fro Canberra, etc.. Oh and does anyone know if they will be building a new road to Canberra, and what the public transportation to Canberra be like? We are also thinking of using Achieve Homes, has anyone used this builder? Thanks everyone! Anybody building at Googong ? 2065May 13, 2015 10:57 am Achieve are on the cheap end. Be careful going house and land as that locks you in and gives you no negotiating power. We have been living here for 5 months. We like it so far, few problems that are to be expected with a new town, but otherwise very friendly and quiet. Traffic is no issue. I am at my office in Barton in under 30 minutes. Read through the last 100 or so pages of discussion and all your questions will be answered Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2067May 13, 2015 12:08 pm Hi all, I enquired with the Googong community manager regarding if a Googong community organisation existed but received no reply. So I wanted to gauge interest in here if others would be willing to put one together. Essentially a not for profit organisation than can help coordinate community activities and help manage impacts to the community. I was also thinking that we could create a Google Groups forum for the community which is very useful in creating specific areas where people can post in and discuss topics rather than one giant thread like this. Is anyone interested? Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2069May 13, 2015 7:28 pm Hi all, can anyone recommend a plantation shutter provider/installer? We are not interested in dealing with the Modern Group or 1/2 price shutters. Also for those that have had them installed what was the approximate time from order to install and did the installation go smoothly for you? Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2070May 13, 2015 7:36 pm My wife and I usually walk the perimeter of the town each day and we are amazed at how quickly some of the builders are constructing the homes, Achieve and APA are two builders who are literally pumping out the homes, I am surprised that the slabs are being built on a few days after being poured. Looking at some of the new blocks over by the school we can see some pretty scary looking level changes, after being stung a few times in the past when we have built on sloping ground we know how costly retaining walls can run at and some of those levels would be running around $20k with engineering drawings being needed. Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2071May 13, 2015 8:05 pm Ok, so I've taken the liberty of setting up a proper forum at: http://googongcommunity.boards.net/ For me Googong is about community and that means its up to us to make it. I don't want Googong to turn into another mindless suburb where no one knows anyone. As you'll see in the forum, I've created threads where people can discuss everything from building tips, to family day care to running groups. I appreciate that will take a long time to build a community and we don't want to force people to be involved where they don't want to be but where I'd like us to be is in a few year where we can organise community BBQs, days on the dam, arrange baby sitters and swap tips on our homes. Hopefully this forum will be much easier to navigate and read than a 104 page thread! If anyone wants to help out, i'm all ears See you over there, J Anybody building at Googong ? 2072May 13, 2015 8:34 pm TheGoogs "For me Googong is about community and that means its up to us to make it. Our house is nearly ready so will be moving in in early June Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2074May 14, 2015 6:20 am Mav Hi all, can anyone recommend a plantation shutter provider/installer? Also for those that have had them installed what was the approximate time from order to install and did the installation go smoothly for you? I've researched this to death. Have just submitted a substantial order with Iseekblinds. 10 week delivery, and the prices recently went up due to falling Aussie $. Had a quote from a local company - Watsons (came in at $20k!) Thanks for the reply Roxberry, we certainly are not looking to spend $20K on shutters that is for sure. I will look at the Issekblinds mob and see what they have to offer. Also for those that have had them installed what was the approximate time from order to install and did the installation go smoothly for you? I ordered blinds and plantation shutters through the blind man. They were able to rush my order for blinds because I need them quickly, and the plantation shutters will take 8 weeks as they come from overseas. My shutters cost $1k for two relatively narrow windows. Re: Anybody building at Googong ? 2077May 14, 2015 10:53 pm Garethchloe SJHanily Hi everyone! Husband and I are waiting for our house to be built - the land should be released some time between now and September. We will be on Riding Road and are building with Achieve Homes (formerly Nablus). Is anyone on the same sort of time line as us? Anyone having any issues at all? Thanks! Hi We are thinking of using Acheieve homes for a house and land package - how has your experience been? Our experience has been great! With the packages you're not able to get any of your own trades in, but apart from that we've had no issues! Our house is 8 weeks from completion and they're great with their communication, updates and letting us come in for walk throughs! We also kept making changes right up until the slab was poured (a few little upgrades here and there). It is also our first home and it's great to be able to afford a 4br, 2bth house and still be able to eat - we also have every feature we could hope for without breaking the budget. go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110686 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11098 |
