Does Vogue Living know to come and do an editorial on your home...if not, they should. Just beautiful on all accounts. Re: Riksters place - Kid's play area 347Oct 05, 2008 2:35 pm Hi
I'm Bec and I'm married to Richard (can I use real names here? Oh well I just did). Thank you for all of your supportive comments. I'm really a bit shocked by all the positive feedback as I know my taste is not everyones cup of tea. I've had good friends come over and say nothing but " it's very big"! I wanted to come on and stress I'm not an interior decorator - not even close. I just love colour and fabric. I've made some mistakes along the way and if I did it again there are definitely things I would change but my advise would be to just do what you like rather than play safe with boring neutrals. ![]() Spoke to Greg from Greenminded not long ago, made an appointment and he never showed up!!!! Anyway, it was meant to be as we are now doing it ourselves. Could I ask if you custom make those curtains? The prints are really nice. Wow - sorry to hear Greg didn't show up. I'll have to ask him about it. We have found him to be reliabe and friendly. I was surprised to read about your experience with him. As for the curtains, Where do I start. I walked the city of Sydney looking for fabric. The curtain industry is just crazy here in Australia. I could write a book about my experience with window dressings alone. To answer your question, they were made to measure. Stonecutter, the Lamp is from a shop called Lightstyle at the Belrose Supacentr but you could probably get it at any light shop. I think they call it a wedding cake. Kexkez, the colour in the upstairs landing is called Linseed, from Dulux. It's one of my favourites. Anyway, thought It was time I jumped on and said Thanks. Your home is stunning on all accounts. I am not a fan of your master bedroom curtains, but that's just me. They're stil lovely, just not my style. Your kids rooms are gorgeous - right out of a "Treehouse" advertisement, they're that good - actually, they're better. I am a real fan of white bedroom furniture - alot of my friends questioned my choice to have white when I furnished my daughter's room, but it looks lovely and fresh to me and it co-ordinates well with anything. Take a bow, you've done an incredible job - enjoy your new home! Re: Riksters place - Kid's play area 351Oct 05, 2008 7:52 pm ![]() I am not a fan of your master bedroom curtains, but that's just me. Thanks Oztish I appreciate your honesty. I would , by far, prefer people to be honest than tell me what they think I want to hear. Interior design is so subjective - it all comes down to personal taste. Because I love such dark wall colours it was important I balanced it with white. So I went looking for fabric with a lot of white. I would say that is the theme of the entire house - the contrast between the dark and light. I'm sure no-one is just saying what you want to hear. Your home is by far the most beautiful home I've seen. It's gorgeous. I felt bad adding my curtain comment, but recalled Richard seeking honest opinions, and that was my only negative I could even remotely come up with - and even then, they're still lovely - just not what I would choose. Looking forward to some more photos, if you're willing to share (ie: front yard, study, formal lounge etc.) Once again congratulations on your excellent choices. Stunning. Tish Re: Riksters place - Kid's play area 355Oct 05, 2008 9:45 pm Your house is absolutely fantabulous. I am in awe ![]() I only wish my house could look half as good as yours, when its finally built...but with my eye for colour it wont come anywhere close. I cant believe the "its big" comments.... its so much more than just big! You have done a super great job with everything. *does 'waynes world' bowing* Re: Riksters place - Kid's play area 356Oct 05, 2008 9:49 pm ![]() If you come back on, I would love to know how you matched the paint and curtain shades so perfectly?? Did you wait till the paint was done, then bring swatches of fabric home? Hi Donuts, Interesting question. I found there are so many paint colours - you can basically paint your walls any colour you'd like. But fabric (particularly in Australia) is far more scarce. So I firstly found the curtain material, then matched the paint to it. Having said that, there were a few incidences where I found beautiful fabric but thought " there's no way I'm painting my wall in that colour". In my opinion, wall colour is so important because it's such a large area - you really need to love it. So there is no hard and fast rule. I had a bad experience finding fabric so I'm probably not a great person to be asking. Bec, the colours you have picked are glorious. Heck, I'd be happy having your daughter's room as mine!
I really think that if you are interested, you might want to explore interior decorating. You've got a great eye. So, when do we see your house in one of the magazines???!! Judie Re: Riksters place - Kid's play area 360Oct 06, 2008 9:48 am Hello,
Just wanted to say how gorgeous your house is and a big thank you for sharing your photos with us. If your wife changes her mind about becoming an ID, please let me know, because I would love her to help me with my house. I am unfortunately missing that ID gene. Just a quick question, overall, were you happy with your builder and do you have any tips when it comes to dealing with Ku-ring-gai Council? The reason I ask is that my sister and her fiance are looking at purchasing land in Pymble and doing a knock-down/rebuild. Once again, a truly beautiful house!
