We must have very similar taste in colours as we're using Linseed and Domain in our place and a very similar colour to your boys room in our kids retreat. Can you please tell me what colour you used for the white ? I'm really struggling to find a nice white that isn't either too grey or too cream. All the credit for the colours goes to my wife - I just said, 'yes, that looks great'. We all feel so inadequate. Absolutely magnificent! There has been some truly gorgeous homes on this site, but I think yours is my favourite. You and your DW have been sympathetic to your environment with your home, it is classic with massive street appeal. Yet you have been dramatic and brave with your internal colour scheme creating a truly unique home. I hope you and your family enjoy what you have created. It's simply beautiful. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Building update 529May 13, 2009 2:17 pm Judie Southies OMG OMG OMG Your house looks even better now !!!!!! Your house fits in with the others around it and doesn't "stand out like a sore thumb" ( as if) I am reminded of your beautiful interior colours and fabrics each time i start thinking about how to take the next step in our build. Re: Building update 534May 13, 2009 9:38 pm kexkez So incredibly hard to believe how short a time your house has been there. Yes, I had no idea it could look like it does after such a short time. It certainly does look like it's been there for 10 years or so. I'm so glad we built now.. especially now that it's cold outside & we are nice & toasty in our nicely insulated & heated house. It's pretty hard to find an established home that is insulated, central heated & has street appeal - that's why we built. All the credit for the colours goes to my wife - I just said, 'yes, that looks great'. Hi Rikster, is that the colour you used for the trims and doors too? and the white on the walls for your little princess' room? I am in the same boat as Rebekah and looking at the samples I thought Vivid white would be too starky white but it looks great in your place, it's probably also the other colour combinations your amazingly talented wife put it with. If I was in LOVE with your house before now I don't know what to call it! I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!! I might have to do like Judie and drive past too if that's ok, I also live on the North Shore. Your house just looks like it's always been there, it belongs there. It looks incredible, this is also my favourite house on the forum, I keep coming to your thread and showing hubby bits and pieces, it's just amazing, I was going to say it looks like a millon dollar home but that's probably offensive as it will be worth twice that, I guess I should say "it looks like a $10m dollar home!" it deserves to be in a magazine! You and your wife should be really proud of yourselves, no one would believe that is a project home!!! Did you get insulation on the walls too? I didn't think that was standard... do you have central heating, as in hydronic heating? Most houses have in Spain and I wish I could have it here... Hi It's Rickster's wife. Apologies for butting in. This forum is DH's thing but when talk of colour comes up I find it hard to stay away. Jochico, I so agree with your concern above about vivid white possily looking to starky - I too was concerned. So much so I didn't use it on the Kitchen cupboards! And this was huge for me because I think it's important to pick one white and carry it through the entire house. But vivid white is such a lovely colour. And yes, to answer your question, I used it on walls, skirting, architraves, doors - everywhere but on the Kitchen cupoards because they are polyurithane, not painted. The longwinded point I'm trying to make is that the more glossy and shiny the surface the more stark it will look - so I chose semi-gloss (rather than gloss) on doors, skirting and architraves. Good luck - of all the paint colours I chose, I felt, white was the hardest choice to make. Love it! Our builder will only use Taubmans/Bristol colours so I am trying to find an equivalent colour, we will be doing different colours later but the builder will just do one colour for the walls and the same one in gloss for the trims and doors. We are looking at a couple of Whites that have a bit of a greyish tone too but it's all soooo confusing! Do you want to start working as an interior decorator and paint advisor? I will be your 1st customer! I just love your place Mr and Mrs Rikster, its amazing!
