Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 18, 2013 11:31 am Hi, We are about to build a new 42sq double story in the northeast of victoria. We are most probably going to go with Carlisle homes at this stage. As the initial quote from them the ducted vaccum is about 2K. The specifications are Electron EVS double story system high powered unit in garage with 4 internal vaccum points, 9 metre host, sock for host, muffler, wand and cleaning tool set. Is that enough for that house and worth the cost? any practical issues/considerations to be aware of? Anybody used this or any other ducted vaccum. Is it worth the cost? I have seen people saying investing in a good dyson upright vaccum is much better, but some people vouch for ducted vaccum. Which one you had and what do you think? My preferences are - Something that I can carry around as husband can get really lazy sometimes for vaccuming. Value for cost Less maintenance issues/cost Not sure if this has some impact on resale value as well . Thoughts /experiences/ suggestions please? Re: ducted vaccum confusion 2May 18, 2013 1:12 pm I think it all comes down to personal taste, but I am for them. I have had one in the last two homes but they were single storey, maybe someone in a double storey will comment. Mine were both bagless, just take off the bottom bin and empty it in the garbage. If you go ahead with it get out your plans and measure where the 9m hose will reach to give you an idea of where you think the inlet valves should be positioned. When they do the preliminary install cut a piece of string 9m long and sneak into the house to make sure it will reach every corner, easier to move before the gyprock goes on. If you can afford some upgrades would definitely install a vacusweep in the kitchen and get a hose with a switch on the handle. I keep a soft broom in the fridge gap, don't have to pull out vacuum or hose. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/vacsweep_zpsbd64c49e.jpg Regards, Grumbles Re: ducted vaccum confusion 6May 18, 2013 8:36 pm The only issue I had with mine when I built a single story in 2002, was that the sock didn't prevent the hose from damaging the corners of walls when it rubbed against them. I have an upright Dyson & won't be having a ducted vacuum in the new build. I do like the vacuum sweep though! Good luck. Maybe get a quote off your builder. You can get them in a few different colours to blend in with your kitchen. The system is costing us $1800 with all accessories etc. and the vac pan is an additional $350 (white or black) and double that for stainless steel! Also, you can't get a vac pan without ducted vacuum system! Hope that helps. Hi All, see above image. The required setback from the rear boundary in my case is 5m, as you can see the shape of the site and location of the boundary is slightly… 0 5849 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
