It seems you ask about cracks & using brick veneer & your builder runs for the hills! Or at least wont return your calls.
EVERY house I have been into in Perth has cracks in it. They are all double brick. The house I rent now is 4 years old and supposedly build by a great builder (Ross North) - but it has humungous cracks - some up to 5mm wide & a meter long IN EVERY ROOM! I would just be gutted if this was my house. I know its just cosmetic - but what a pain in the butt....
Im told you can 'reduce' your cracks with new techniques when laying your slab (bigger/deeper - something or rather).
But I want cavity slider doors, and I want to hang pictures without great big screws in my wall, I want a faster build, I want wall paper feature walls.
I dont buy this 'resale value is better with double brick' thing, Im also not bothered re heating/cooling - double brick houses are bloody hot in summer & air con has to work twice as hard Im sure to cool the bricks down. Im not even bothered about the cost difference as I understand these days theres not much to be saved with the brick veneer anyway.
Ive not yet heard a compelling enough reason NOT to build brick veneer - can anyone enlighten me? I feel like this is currently a deal breaker with our builder (other builders in their group do brick veneer - just not this one). If there are other threads on this pls feel free to point me in the right direction - I couldnt find a search function for old threads....Thanks!
