Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 15, 2013 3:15 pm This might be a stupid question, but we're planning on having a Games Room with glass double sliding doors to go outside. My plans are to put a billiard table in this room one day, is that a silly idea with the glass? Similarly, any feedback on the likelihood of damage to gyprock walls as well? The room will be 4.5m by 5.4m, and I was hoping it would be comfortable for a standard 8 foot table. cheers, gabs Re: Games Room with Double Sliding Doors? 2Jan 15, 2013 9:29 pm gabs247 This might be a stupid question, but we're planning on having a Games Room with glass double sliding doors to go outside. My parents have a pool table and when I was younger I'd often hit the ball too hard and it would go flying off the table. I'd check the recommended room around the outside, there must be websites with required dimensions ... because my parent's place where I was drug-up had a room downstairs which had originally been designed to fit a billiards table; and although the memories are a little hazy because it was over 20 years ago, I'm sure it was a fair bit larger than 4.5m x 5.4m. I wouldn't hesitate to fit glass doors; if you think about it, all such rooms need to have windows anyway, and those windows are at the Danger Height for both flying balls & whatever the equivalent of a "backswing" is in billiards. Re: Games Room with Double Sliding Doors? 6Jan 16, 2013 10:12 am Thanks Ed, it's not so much my shots but potentially my kids and their friends in the future. I'm pretty sure that the room should fit an 8 footer, which is the likely size I'd go for. And you're right Forg, Billiards is played on full sized tables and I've got no chance of even fitting one of those into the room. My problem, is that I think, if the room was just another couple 100mm, I might fit a 9 foot table in there... Yes, I need to have windows, and I need to have double sliding doors which open up to the rear garage roller door, so that I can get the table in there! But the main reason, is for light and since that is the northern wall, I do want to have large glass sliding doors spanning that side to let the winter warmth in (although, I'll need to cover the table when not in use to protect it from the UV). Thanks for the advice, I found lots on room sizes, but nothing really about damaging walls/windows, probably more worried about the glass as the gyprock can be more easily patched. And I was saying to my wife that sliding doors are made from thicker safety glass, as far as I know, so hopefully that'd be a little more resilient than a window. Surely the odds are very low... We will have a pool table and an air hockey table and I have never worried about glass being broken. I think having my kids living there poses more of a risk of broken glass Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors.
