Thanks for the post - make sure you update your thread I'm subscribed to it not many on here building with Fairhaven so I'm keen to hear how others are doing and their own experiences with timeframe! Unfortunately we haven't been given a starting point for slab at this point, haven't really asked. Because we've done our own cut thats kind of messed up timeframes, but I guess it will mean a shorter build time once they get there to start. I'm hopeful we will know come next week about a timeframe I think once I see a slab I will know its out of our hands and underway thats the big mental block at the moment! I'll keep pictures coming when they are moving forward. Will also provide a list of colour that we picked tonight never did that previous. EXTERIOR We have setout the front the exact same as the display. I think people often get lost in picking colours. My wife loved the display, particular the colours so we decided the easiest way to go where we knew we would be happy was to just replicate that. Our estate has a lot of dark coloured homes and this will help ours stand out as something new or a bit different. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So we have Woodland Grey as the roof, the roller door is Jasper and gutters Woodland Grey with fascia and downpipes Evening Grey. Rendered areas are Pebble Bay. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We've also selected a base brick for the exposed areas of the house (sides and reason) which arent rendered. They're Austral Chestnut, we were actually quite pleased with Fairhavens base range of bricks. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Corinthian Door - Windsor 5G clear glass. We've picked this to go with the clear surround that our chosen facade gives. We're not concerned about having clear glass so you can see in. The hallway blocks the view to the main living areas and its gives a more open look to our front. The front door and awning timber windows are Chestnut from Cabots. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ INTERIOR Once again we loved the interior. Largely we've kept the same colours where possible without going to 'premium upgrade' choices to reduce cost. Our paint colour is the same as the display; Martini. Great colour. Looks more white during the day, light or mid grey during the evening. While at it, the floor is the same, floating floor - Readyflor and the colour is Kempas as displayed. We've saved $5,000 roughly by laying it after handover even though I'm worried that may cause issues. The arcs, doors and roof are Crisp White. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floor tiling in bathroom are Belga Ivory from Beaumont tiles. Its almost a light reflection of the walls with some brown through it. Surprisingly nice as a base tile once again. FINALLY found a sample of our carpet locally in Warragul! Listed as Crown Carpets - Aldershott Valley colour Mongoose. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ KITCHEN Surprise surprise we've pushed the limits of base range to replicate the display. Benchtop is Luna White stone, taken from the Franklin display in Warragul. Really fine pattern to it and very nice with waterfall ends. Cabinets under the island and the front board of the island facing the living area is Cavia Lini Finegrain. We gave it texture to add more detail. We have the same colour in bathrooms and wet areas however its a matt finish for easier cleaning. Importantly we cut out the raised ceiling and skylights. We felt it was a bit cold, and that at $6,500 we could live without it. Cabinets on the wall of the kitchen are Polar White. Gives a great contrast to the dark island with white top. Also today at the contract meeting we asked that the spashback sample be there for us to take a photo. Its a purple/grey colour. Really happy with it now having seen it again. Attached below; Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ EXTERIOR One thing we were really keen to do was to break down the massive brick walls that always seem to appear in outdoor areas. The Whistler display had cladding in this area and its one of the things we actually fell in love with. We've added that in at a small cost, and picked the same colour. Image below gives you a better idea of how it will look, minus the pool ofcourse! Another thing that with minimal cost makes it look like a much more expensive home! It also makes it seem much warmer I think than brick would. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Well they're the broad strokes of colour in our home. Kept it simple but I think interesting and a definitely replication of the display with touches of us. Keen to get feedback on what you think guys! Cheers, Met. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 65Jul 04, 2013 12:58 pm UPDATE - Just had our rep email us with Final Plans! Everything we flagged has been fixed up and we are good to go! Just have to wait for pre-contract meeting copies of paperwork to arrive to check and then contract meeting next Thursday! Feels really good to know the plans are pretty much done though now. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 67Jul 04, 2013 2:10 pm Thanks Hamilton! I've been following your thread to get an idea of timelines as we move forward. Yours is coming together really well! We actually wanted the same splashback as yours but changed it during the colour meeting to be a dark blue grey like the Karma colour on the Commodores. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 68Jul 04, 2013 2:42 pm Hey Metroid, with regard to the flooring, are you supplying just the tiles only or getting the whole job done by a third party. I want to go for timber floor( jarraha or Amercian Oak, although I have't got FH's quote for timber upgrade their initial reaction seems to be it would be very very expensive, their suggestion is to go with laminated floor which I am not in much favour. but I got quotes from solid timber floorsuppliers for $125- 150 including installation which I feel is a good price. Could I know what sort of items your supplying instead of FH's selection. Any further input on this regard would be much appreciated. Thanks Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 69Jul 04, 2013 2:52 pm Hey Shaman, The tiling is being done by fairhaven. As we picked base range tiles it wasnt worth doing it ourselves was a minimal saving. We're laying our own floating floor which is exactly the same product as what is in the display home. The product is Premium Floors Australia - Readyflor. http://www.premiumfloors.com.au/timber/ ... or-kempas/ One reason we selected it is we can see it in the display layed and over a large area. The other reason being if you visit the display its been open over 18 months to 2 years and the flooring still looks really really good. You have to think its had a heap of visitors in that time all wearing shoes so the fact its lasted so well is a great sign. It's approximately $73pm2 for the product and an additional $25pm2 to lay it. That includes labour, underlay and the quad around the arcs which I was really happy with. We looked at solid timber flooring however Fairhaven werent able to rebate the slab so we could make it all work together well, so we've settled comfortably on this. Beyond that we're only supplying installation of conduit to wire the home for backbone network after handover and thats all. Just the flooring everything else is done by Fairhaven. Let me know if you have any further questions I'd be interested to hear of your progress and what you're doing too. Just to add we have also been considering Bamboo flooring. Choices where we are purchasing our Readyflor suggested we check out some of the display homes at Warragul where Roseleigh Homes having bamboo flooring. It looks fantastic however I was concered with the the bevel between each run of bamboo and that it would catch dirt. Its a great looking product we may yet consider it closer to finish but at this point sticking with readyflor. Also Fairhaven has said we cant install until AFTER handover. Though its a pain in the butt I understand they dont want to be liable for damage that may occur so we have agreed. Cheers, Met. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 71Jul 05, 2013 7:55 am No problem at all happy to help. Keep us up to day on how you progress not many threads on here so I'm hoping those who I do find will take the time to update everyone so its easier for others in the future. Cheers, met. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 72Jul 05, 2013 3:51 pm UPDATE! Added this to the post above! FINALLY found a sample of our carpet locally in Warragul! Listed as Crown Carpets - Aldershott Valley is the range, colour Mongoose. The rep I spoke to at the supplier said its a really good quality carpet, 4 star range for them with SPF protection to stop colour issues and that importantly it cleans very well even though its a light carpet. He showed me some others but said best value for appearance and texture that the range we had picked was really good. Great to be reassured outside Fairhaven by someone else! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 74Jul 07, 2013 8:15 pm We've got carpet in all bedrooms, theatre rear hallway and kids retreat. Tiles for wet areas and the rest readyflor click system. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 75Jul 08, 2013 12:05 pm Contract week! We spent the weekend looking through display homes to ensure we were happy with the selections we have made with Fairhaven and we definitely are! Below is our electrical would be appreciatitve if people could take a look and see if we've made any faults! ELECTRICAL So today talking to my friend who is providing our home theatre items he picked up on something I'd totally missed, the ducted heating for the theatre is in EXACTLY the wrong spot, where the projector is planned to go! We've contacted our rep and waiting to hear back if they can move it to the theatre/meals wall of the theatre room. We've made a heap of changes to the electrical, the most expensive element being downlights. Though I know I could have it done after handover cheaper, I cant be bothered fixing up issues that may be caused from doing that such as repainting and touch ups. We've moved the 3 downlights from over the bench to in the walkway between the meals/family and kitchen area so after handover we can add 3 pendants over the main island bench. We've also put all 5 lights in kitchen on 1 circuit (was 2 for some reason) and made it a two way system so when we have kids the cant turn the lights on from the meals side of the kitchen where their bedrooms are. Take a look open to any feedback suggestions or changes! Or just ask questions! Thanks guys. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 77Jul 08, 2013 7:52 pm Each of the triangles are TV points, so we have 3. Main bedroom, lounge and theatre. I've got doubles there because they are standard, I have a family member who is a sparky and he will change these to 4's on handover so they're not too bad low priority I guess. We've also got ducted vacuuming which are the littel V's on the layout. There is also a kick vacuum in the kitchen also. Great points though Hamilton! Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 78Jul 09, 2013 10:40 am Had a call from our Rep, she says we should have plans and contracts tonight to look over before Thursdays meeting! Hope so! She picked up on a few things she wanted to question so its good to hear they're going through it as finely as we are. In particular they wanted to know if we wanted taller doors throughout the house because our bedroom ones are 2340 heigh to match the raised ceiling we have. The only doors we see it affecting visually are they garage, theatre and entry to rear hall, so we've opted to not change any to the taller height. Will mean we can put some sort of sign above the theatre maybe etc. Other than that looks like everything else is right! Anyone have tips for thursday and our contract meeting, or things we should be looking for when we get them tonight to look through? Any advice would be great! Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July / Colours 79Jul 09, 2013 1:37 pm Metroid I have a family member who is a sparky and he will change these to 4's on handover so they're not too bad low priority I guess. Very jealous of the sparky relative, that would be handy! Metroid Anyone have tips for thursday and our contract meeting, or things we should be looking for when we get them tonight to look through? Any advice would be great! Read everything and then read it again. Make sure your colour selection sheets match your drawings. Compare your Contract to the HIA standard contract, if you are at all uneasy about something might be worth getting it checked out. You can always push back your contract signing if you need more time to understand the documents, do not let them tell you anything else! On our plans we found the most errors in the actual drawings, variations were not all noted. Also the electrical plan had a few errors. I prepared a list of questions and errors in the documents that I took with me to contract signing. (I stuck post its on the relevant pages as well ) Don't be afraid to ask questions and insist on answers before you sign. It took our contract lady 40 minutes to get answers to all our questions from upstairs at Carlisle. lol. We got our answers though and the WIR just the way I wanted it! Remember, this is pretty much the most important part of the build itself, so whilst its tempting to just get it over and done with, do not rush it. Also make sure your Contract has a clear start time and finish time (or a set build period). Eg. Ours had to be started within 28 days of the Contract signing, (assuming we did all our requirments) and then completed within a set amount of days (about 6 months). I know a couple who had to wait almost 2 years for their house to be built, because they did not check this and their builder was obviously a bit crappy. And . . .Good Luck! It gets very exciting once they actually start building!
