Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairhaven Homes - Site Cut Complete, next, Walls (PHOTOS 41May 07, 2013 4:40 pm No we've decided against it Stuba. It was quite costly and to be honest I feel it makes homes much more industrial. I think it was like $6k for the ceiling and skylights. We've opted to raise the ceiling in the whole home instead to create more light and size instead of the raked kitchen. Re: Fairhaven Homes - Site Cut Complete, next, Walls (PHOTOS 42May 07, 2013 4:53 pm Excellent to know cannot wait to see some pictures of it as I feel very much the same. We will definitely be going with the raised ceilings as well. Just cannot wait to get it all under way but that's not going to happen until Dec/Jan unless the land titles earlier :p Jay Building the Whistler, by Fairhaven. Now have to have fairhaven inspect the site, do a soil test and surveyor report and then finally contracts. Cant wait to have it out of our hands! Re: Fairhaven Homes - Site Cut Complete, next, Walls (PHOTOS 44May 08, 2013 3:02 pm Updated; finished wall photos... Already had a discussion with fairhaven. They'll be out there as soon as possible to do a soil test, to assess the wall and have a surveyor mark to undertake final drawings and contract works! Had an email today from our Customer Service Rep at Fairhaven. Being told that they have ordered soil testing to confirm what our reports showed (fair enough we agreed on that to do our own cut). From there the Tenderer will get back in touch with final tenders and plans for us to sign. Then a further 3 - 4 weeks to get contracts and then 2 - 3 more weeks for a start date, or perhaps even to be underway. Really glad to see some sort of timetable. Benefit for us is that we are a bit ahead obviously with the site cut done ready for a possible final scrape and slab to start once we get contracts. How realistic are their dates there? Not trying to make it sound better than it will be are they? Just wanna see a slab already. Re: Fairhaven Homes - Cut done, waiting on Final Tender (PHO 47May 14, 2013 4:24 pm Hi All, I am new to this forum and have been reading all of your posts closely and are very excited to see you too are building with fairhaven. Our story so far is we have decided to build the Franklin329 (Display in Warragul) in the new Jacksons View estate in Drouin. our land isn't due to settle until Sept but in the meantime we are doing as much as we can at Fairhaven. So far we have paid our initial deposit of $1,000 back in January and now that we are sure we are building the Franklin have arranged to proceed further. We have our colour appointment booked for 15 May ( tomorrow) and are really looking forward to this. We have had no problems at all with the service and our current customer service rep at Head Office is very efficient and calls us regularly. I will keep you all posted as to how things proceed. I will also continue to follow your progress, cheers LH Re: Fairhaven Homes - Cut done, waiting on Final Tender (PHO 48May 14, 2013 4:45 pm Thanks for the post mate. Good to see another person building in the same area using the same builder. Already local or making the move here? I know my thread started out whingy a bit regarding fairhaven however I can't really complain now that we are done with our own cut and retaining works they seem much easier, I believe they simply didnt want us doing it ourselves but now that we are past that all good. Looking forward to hearing how you go tomorrow interested to compare what we are doing vs what you're doing. I have another family member who has decided to build the Franklin too. Re: Fairhaven Homes - Cut done, waiting on Final Tender (PHO 49May 14, 2013 7:00 pm Great to see everything starting to move now will be interesting to see how true to their timeline they are. Welcome Dkhlah Good to see a few more of us building with Fairhaven look forward to hearing your journey also. Jay Building the Whistler, by Fairhaven. Waiting for a final tender and final plans to sign off to go to contract. How long does this part of the process normally take?! **UPDATE** Being told today it is STILL with pricing... probably me just whinging but would like a final tender so we can get SOMETHING underway! At least the customer service girl my wife spoke to said they will push to get it back asap and chanse it up... hopefully... Re: Fairhaven Homes - Cut done, waiting on Final Tender (PHO 51Jun 06, 2013 11:56 am Hey All, Had an update today through our Customer Rep and the Tenderer... Apparently the second soil test that has come back now says that it should be an H class slab. This is really surprising. Just to clarify we are having a second test as part of our agreement to cut the block ourselves, so a first soil test was used to give us an initial tender with the most accurate prices possible before we committed to the cut and then second test to ensure the first was accurate. The tenderer has been really good and is trying to find out if something else can be done otherwise its approximately $6k more than the first tender. Not the end of the world and its nice to know he is at least trying to come to some sort of compromise asap. Should know more tonight! Cheers, Met. Re: Fairhaven Homes - Cut done, waiting on Final Tender (PHO 52Jun 11, 2013 10:11 pm Hey Everyone! Finally a good update! We today have signed the final tender and paid the $2k deposit to get final plans and contracts underway! We hit a block where fairhaven come back following the second soil test and had it as H-class however rather than charge us the standard price upgrade they have more than halved it as a gesture of good will. Really happy with that outcome! So now we just have to wait the extra time to get finals all done and we can FINALLY move forward! Really happy with the Tenderer's support throughout the past week and his help as well as our Customer Services reps. Anyone got a timeframe on what it normally takes to get contracts back and progress through to hopefully seeing a slab?!? Also final site layout below following our self cut and retaining works! Cheers Met! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contract upcoming... 53Jun 24, 2013 9:45 am By way of an update guys I've had a call yesterday from our sales rep! She'll call Monday to give us a contract meet date (most likely 4 or 5 July) to finalise things and go to the next stage!! Very excited! Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contract upcoming... 54Jun 24, 2013 9:48 pm Just had a call from our rep; Thursday 11 July for our contract meeting! I raised a few issues with them, in particular that we plan on Smart Wiring our home after handover and that we're concerned about access to the wall caivities on the external walls due to having a colourbond roof (ie cant pull up tiles to easily drill). The rep was really understanding and is going to find out if we can do our own 32mm piping when at frame stage so that we can easily punch and wire later! Really great service they're well within their right (and may still) to say no so hopefully we're able to do that and that will make us really happy (or me at least anyway). Can anyone tell me about what to expect on the day? Are we expected to pay the 5% deposit on the day, or do we do that directly with the bank after signing the contract at their office? Advice and contract info welcomed guys!! Re: Fairhaven Homes Warragul FIRST SITE PLAN IN! HELP! 55Jun 28, 2013 12:05 pm Hi, Metroid, I've chosen Fairheaven Homes to build my home in South Eastern Suburb, although still in the initial stages, I might go for solid timber floor with my supplier, Just like to know what sort of credit did they give your for your tiles. Thanks Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July!! 56Jun 28, 2013 1:16 pm Hey Shaman, Yeah we were provided with a $3,000 credit or just a touch over for standard range of tiles to be deleted from entry, kitchen, pantry, meals and family rooms. How far into the process are you? We looked at doing a solid timber floor however Fairhaven said they dont rebate slab, only provide standard finish to it so we have opted for Redifloor which is in the display home. I believe the quoted about $13,000 for it however through a supplier I know we've been able to secure the product, underlay, beading and installation for under $8,000. We will be required to do it after handover however. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July!! 57Jun 28, 2013 10:01 pm $3000 seems very little, what's the sqm involved, I am still in preliminary quote stage. I would love to go with solid timber, preferably American Oak, if my budget permits me, if not might go for bamboo Thanks for the infor Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July!! 58Jun 29, 2013 3:11 pm They quote its 7000 in their options book for flooring, however that includes product, install etc, the refund you get is cost of product only, at least that's how they broke it down for me. Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July!! 59Jul 02, 2013 12:29 pm Had contact yesterday from our Rep, she's provided near final plans that we will see at contract and asked us to point out any issues we have. They've done a great job there are a few minor things which they missed, and one major error with the shelving in the walk in pantry being done as overhead cupboards instead of shelves but all easily fixable. Have to say fairhaven have done a great job in communicating in recent weeks! Had a family friend come quote to do our driveway last night as the bank wants to know a price estimate before we get started, I've been quoted $350 to widen the crossover and about $6,500 to do exposed agg for driveway. Seems cheap for me I had another person quote 10k just for the driveway. He's a very experienced concreter I felt bad asking if he was doing us a favour but he seems he is. Can anyone give me some thoughts on that price? Re: Fairhaven Homes Whistler - Contact Day 11 July!! 60Jul 03, 2013 2:41 pm We've received near final plans Monday that have a few errors, but nothing overly major... Appreciate any feedback guys! Two things on this image in particular were; - OHC should say 'shelves' as they are floor to roof shelving for storage - Location of outdoor tap - moved to back of property as it wont have any use where it is on the eastern side of the home - Sink in ensuite - Will drive me nuts if its not centred. We removed the second sink we have a bathroom now with 2 sinks and find we want bench space instead of sinks. - Changes opening and fixed doors to theatre room - fixed door will be the one attached to the hall wall to ensure speakers or screen isnt covered if the door is ever left open Heres our internal layout! When I have final ones I'll upload those also...
