Tony Re: Allcastle homes feedbacks 2Jan 13, 2013 9:06 pm Have a look on the product review website... We have one going up next door, loads of stuff ups and slow. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Allcastle homes feedbacks 4Jan 24, 2013 11:25 am I am thinking of building with Allcastle as well. Have read about the review, some good and some not so good but I like the design of their houses. I guess it is the same with every builder. There are bound to have good and not so good reviews. Re: Allcastle homes feedbacks 5Mar 07, 2013 7:57 pm We are at final tender stage with them and I would recommend doing your homework thoroughly beforehand. They were quite good to begin with, some small mix ups and slow to respond but I was prepared for that after reading multiple reviews. However now, once we have invested $8k to get to where we are, "unexpected" charges are popping up that are well over the amounts they are being charged. For example we are being charged $1960 for a site peg out and sighting but after speaking with the company that carried out the work today, I have found out they only charged A**castle $495 for this. These new charges have pushed us up over our FHOG cap and I made a specific phone call to A**castle last week to find out if there were any other charges we should know about before signing off. I was told no there weren't however the dates on the paperwork show they knew these about these charges a week before I asked the question. We are seriously considering forfeiting our $8k already spent and going with another builder. Sorry for the long post but I would hate for what is happening to us to happen to anyone else. Re: Allcastle homes feedbacks 6Mar 07, 2013 9:29 pm Was there a clause in the contract stating no further costs? Pays to read and understand everything before signing. This forum is full of issues with builders due to misleading or misunderstood verbal agreements! What has costed you $8k before reaching this point? Re: Allcastle homes feedbacks 7Mar 07, 2013 9:53 pm They do it differently to most builders and you don't actually sign contracts until after council approval. So basically you go through council and jump through all the hoops and then you get your final tender with all these extra costs. By that stage you have already paid $800 for a deposit tender $3200 for plan preparation and another $4000 to submit to council. I figure this is their way of getting you invested in the build and emotionally attached to your home. I honestly have no problem with genuine unforeseen expenses but I do have a problem with being told there are no other charges that we don't know about AFTER they have already been notified of the need for the additional work, being overcharged for the work by more than three times the amount and being charged extra for something that was already being done as standard. I am particularly careful in reading contracts and documenting everything and have checked and re-checked everything every step of the way and have asked many, many questions. This is not the first time they have given me misleading information but as this one is so costly and is jeopardising our FHOG I am more than upset. Enough so that I would consider taking my business else where. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 47473 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
