Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 13, 2013 8:13 am Hi, new to forum. Building a new house and we have chosen a different colour of tile grout (not epoxy, just different colour to the standard) and are being told its an extra cost to lay by builder. Tile suppler and few other tile layers saying should not be any extra. as anyone ever heard of extra cost just because grout is a different colour? cheers Re: Tile Laying Costs 2Jan 13, 2013 8:23 am I noticed with our tiles that went down only a couple weeks ago that the grout is different colours. We have light tiles on the walls and grout is white / same with main bath floor. looked at the dark grey/black tiles on the laundry floor and noticed him putting down the grout and it was a dark grout to blend in. We were never charged extra nor did we even ask for them to be different. I guess they just did what was necessary.. I don't think it should be extra, sounds like they're just trying to get a bit more money , but I am not a tiler so please don't take my opinion as gospel - however, we got different - to be honest having to choose a grout colour was not even in my thought process of being something I would have to be mindful of when going through our selections. Good Luck. I think the cement grout is easier for the floors as it goes on as more of a granule mix rather than a paste. Re: Tile Laying Costs 4Jan 13, 2013 10:24 am some companies will have a couple of standard colours and if you want anything out of their standard list they will charge more. I assume some tilers have big batches of the standard grout colours and then buy in specifically what they need if its something different. So they charge more because it's non standard. As for being surprised by your grout colours. Lilac if you didn't select a colour the tiler I guess gets to decide. I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 761 Hey There. No problems re jumping in.
