Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 10, 2013 1:43 pm Hi all I am sure most of you are with me, but we are OVER the no work going on! Our builders aren't back on board til Monday, but the tradies apparently can still be another 2 weeks after that? It is sending me lol Did everyone get slugged with a 5 week extension period on their contracts, or are we one of the only lucky ones? Cheers Sam Our first home... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60460 Land Dep paid 26/2/12 Site cleared7/12/12 Slab 20/12/12 Frame 25/1/13 Bricks 19/2/13 Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 2Jan 10, 2013 1:57 pm we were told from 24th dec to 11 jan but our builders are back and working hard Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 3Jan 10, 2013 2:03 pm We count ourselves as lucky as our Chippies worked up til Christmas and were back just after New Years. I think they asked for a 16 day extension. I can imagine your pain though and I think it probably comes down to which stage your up to in your build and what tradie is needed, some want to get started back into it and other trades take longer off. I would be over it too Spottie. Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 4Jan 10, 2013 2:46 pm We were told about this from the start so the gap was included in our contract period. They worked up until christmas eve, I went past Monday and nothing had been done, so I'm thinking next week they'll be back! We were told the brickie would finish on the 14th and it looks like it's only one days work. Just hope there's no difference in appearance with the mortar etc. It's definitely frustrating but a little patience is all we need Good luck! My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61233 Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 5Jan 10, 2013 2:53 pm We got told about the extension to our contract... Although builders were on site 22nd dec and came back Monday, just to put plastic up.... Nothing else done this week. They said 5 weeks so I will just wait to see when work starts again. Built a Hawthorne 31 with EB nessjeffdreamhouse.blogspot.com.au Building an investment now with New Living homes... We are at nearly finished... Just landscaping and driveway to go! Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 6Jan 10, 2013 3:10 pm Yeah this week has been quite annoying. I've been back at work for the last two weeks and to not see anyone on site this week, particularly when our builder has gone over his allocated contract days is very frustrating. We are so close yet so far from finishing... Our place was meant to be finished before the shutdown, so there was no provision in the building contract for their closedown. Meeting with the builder on Tuesday the 15th for a few stern words. What do you mean getting slugged with an extension period on your contract? Do you at least get to imposes penalties? Ours is $50 a day... Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 7Jan 10, 2013 7:16 pm Our contract also includes a 5 week Xmas shutdown. But the tiler has been working over the Xmas and New Year break and the chippie was back this week finishing the instalation of our doors. The SS is also back this week too. I think they put 5 weeks in the contract to cover the builder as different tradies take different amount of time off. I think our brickies have this week off as well. We have been quite lucky work has been getting done. But I can understand the frustration of no work being done. We have drawn down most of our construction loan now, so we would like the house finished sooner rather than later.....hoping for PCI by March sometime. We built the Wisdom Majestic 40 - moved in! Extension to contra 9Jan 10, 2013 7:20 pm I don't even remember if we have extra time in our contract. Our builders shut down 21 Dec - 14 Jan, but I can't complain, because I have that time off too lol. I actually went to the house today to get some measurements and a truck arrived with the gyprock, so I don't know if they will start sheeting tomorrow or Monday, but at least it's something! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 10Jan 10, 2013 9:21 pm We just got an email with an attached letter saying due to clause XYZ in our building contract they are advising us of the 5 week industry shut down. I get that its Christmas and that most places have shut down - but seriously in this day and age with the economy the way it is how many self employed tradies take off the full 5 weeks? We had our slab poured a few days before Christmas, all thats been down on ours is a termite collar around the perimeter of the slab. There is no frame or anything on site so who knows how much longer it will be Our first home... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60460 Land Dep paid 26/2/12 Site cleared7/12/12 Slab 20/12/12 Frame 25/1/13 Bricks 19/2/13 Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 12Jan 11, 2013 5:40 pm We started back yesterday I think, the bricks are almost finished so I'd say it was then. Hopefully lock up in the next week or two? My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61233 Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 13Jan 11, 2013 6:42 pm Hi there, I am not sure if we will receive a letter or not. I don't think it will make much difference to us at this stage as we are on track in terms of build time. Our builder stopped work Dec 21st and comes back Monday 14th. Our site superviser before going on leave booked the tilers and they started the week of Jan 2nd. All bathrooms have been completed and the kitchen was booked for delivery on Tuesday 15th. Apparently if this goes to plan then the painters should follow so my fingers remain crossed it goes to plan - although there is a tiling fix up required in our ensuite. Apparantly tilers didn't know we don't have a shower door in our ensuite and have not tiled flush to the shower angle.... oops... not sure how they are going to fix this one... may need some tiles to be lifted and re-laid... Any way, I hope everyone's builds get back on track sooner than later... I think you will find it's a safety gate and the tradies will kick in to gear and start wanting to get some cashola.... well hopefully anyway, I know after my break I can't wait to get back in to it on Monday. Extension to contra 14Jan 11, 2013 6:55 pm agreed with the sentiments here, the building industry has a whine about how there isn't enough work, but when the work is on, they are all on holidays. Re: Over the Xmas break, c'mon builders! Extension to contra 15Jan 14, 2013 8:16 pm Well our builders were back today and my hubby called to see if we could get a time frame of when they will start on our frame. Apparently the frame company aren't back til the 21st - so it won't be delivered until at least after them!! This is sending me loopy!!!
