Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 09, 2013 3:49 pm Just wondering did everyone install roof sarking? We're building a 2 storey house with a 20 degree roof pitch and concrete tiles, insulation is provided as part of the build. We'll have 1 whirlybird. Our builder is M3tric0n. It's about an extra $3,000 - is it worth it? Re: Sarking? 2Jan 09, 2013 4:24 pm We won't have sarking, but I'm sure a lot of people will tell you it's a good idea. We just couldn't justify the cost of it ($1,500 for a small single story). We believe there are benefits such as an ability to minimize radiant heat transfer, and also act as a water proofing membrane under a tiled roof. Sarking is mandatory on tiled roofs in certain locations depending on the construction circumstances. Re: Sarking? 4Jan 10, 2013 2:50 pm Ours was included in our Bushfire assessment level. In total cost over 4k but I think it will be worth it. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61233 Re: Sarking? 5Jan 16, 2013 8:15 am LMcNish89 Ours was included in our Bushfire assessment level. I actually asked "what is sarking" rather sheapishly. Re: Sarking? 6Jan 16, 2013 9:24 am Search for sarking and see the threads that come up ... I wish we had got sarking on the wall that faces the hot afternoon sun I am sure it would have made a lot of difference ... it's worth it if you can afford it ...
