Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 08, 2013 8:03 pm I posted this under the bathroom/laundry forum, but thought I would post here too..... We just had our bathrooms/laundry tiled. Happy with most of it, however, one of the first things I noticed is that where the wall tile meets the floor they haven't matched up the grout lines. The floor tiles are just off by about 8mm but enough for me to noitce. They are equally out, so I feel like should the floor been pushed up 8mm they would all align perfectly, not sure why this didn't happen in the first place. Anyway, just curious how everyone else's tiles look - do your grout lines match up or am I being pedantic. Don't have photo's unfortunately as I didn't have my camera. Our wall tiles are floor to ceiling 300 x 600mm (vertical) and the floor tiles are 300x300mm so no reason why they couldn't have matched up and I guess having 3m ceilings and tiles all over, it may just be making it stand out more. I know it can't be changed now as it's all finished - even did groceries afterwards and went to Westfield's toilet while I was there - low and behold - perfect aligned grout lines... The other issue is in our ensuite and they have not tiled flush with the angle where the shower entry is. We don't have a shower door just a square set opening and the shower then sits behind a free standing wall that our bath sits infront of. There is now visibly a metal angle sticking up about 5mm from the tiles going across the shower entry floor. If you had a shower screen, it would probably cover it, but we don't. It has to go - not sure how they will fix it but I'll wait until they return and check with SS. Anyway - just thought I would see if mis-aligned grout lines are common. thanks Blog: http://cbcbuild.blogspot.com.au/ Building Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62155 Re: ceiling/floor tile grout alignment - common or NOT??? 2Jan 10, 2013 5:46 pm probably this has been answered in your other thread, but i was under the impression that if tiles are rectified they should be identical in size, therefore when the tiles are laid down its easier to line them up. if the tiles arent rectified (cut before firing) they can come out in different sizes (by mm's) so when you lay them there will be difference in lining them up. so eventually they won't line up. when we were going to lay out 300x450mm vertical with our 300x300 floor tiles we were going to match up, the tiler was like, i can do it but it will be fiddly and time consuming to get it right. then decided to go horizontal with the wall tiles so that didn't matter anymore. but the tiling grout lines all match around the window and bathtub bits Re: ceiling/floor tile grout alignment - common or NOT??? 3Jan 10, 2013 11:09 pm From what I can gather you are saying the grout lines in the floor are not lining up with the grout lines on the walls, they are offset by 8mm. My understanding is (as referenced in the appropriate Australian Standards) "Joint alignment should be consistent throughout the installation unless otherwise specified" Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12899 Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8424 I have an investment property and tenants moved out recently. However the Property manager noticed one of the floor tiles is broken and the kitchen Island countertop is… 0 12903 |
