Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 08, 2013 10:31 am Hi everyone, here are my plans for a proposed build in South Australia.
the plans have been submitted to council so not a lot of changes can be made. I had concerns about bedroom one not getting enough ventilation so we changed the window to a sliding door. what do you think? http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag3 ... 22288c.jpg http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag3 ... 69fc11.jpg Re: plans 2Jan 08, 2013 10:57 am Looks great! I see you are having the family room a tv built-in with fire place? Thats really nice. Also like your kitchen design, had seen one similar in Home Beautiful magazine by a designer who runs the business "Home Beautiful" and really like it. Will you have a power point in the island? Sorry so many questions, more I look at your plan the more features I see that we would really like to have. Anyway fellow South Australian here we've made the decision to build our next home so hunting around for land in our area (we don't want to move out as eldest son has started school and next son start mid year) so great to watch a few SA builds. As for the master bedroom I think that would be fine? We actually went to check out the M*****n homes up at Bluestone in Mount Barker and the Chelsea design had the master at the back with a sliding door I think they had it on the wall opposite to the ensuite/walk in robe. Would you mind at all sharing who you are building with? Re: plans 4Jan 08, 2013 6:23 pm thank you both. we have not signed with a builder yet. We have made a payment to a builder for plans, soil report etc and he will cost it up and give us a quote at the end of the month. If the price is right we will go with him. He is a small custom builder. This is the first build for us. We were thinking of knocking down our home of 30 years but it was a bit too good to do that and last September we found a block with a very old house ready to be demolished just around the block from us! we snapped it up and put our house on the market and would you believe it sold the first weekend. So now we are renting and ready to embark on this great adventure. I hope to start a thread of my own when we are a little further on. cheers Re: plans in South Australia 5Jan 08, 2013 7:18 pm love the facade. love the plans one thing i would do is have a sliding from the master and enlarge the alfresco so you can walk straight out this facade is the one i have always wanted and at one stage were were considering moving to SA Re: plans in South Australia 6Jan 08, 2013 7:22 pm yes I can see what you are saying but we were hoping to get some winter sun thru the glass door, am not sure which would be better. Re: plans in South Australia 7Jan 08, 2013 7:34 pm that is right you may be able to add an awning later. Re: plans in South Australia 8Jan 09, 2013 9:03 am Wow beach build, sounds like the buying of land and selling your home fell into place very quickly thats great. I went to look at a block of land near us, talking to the agent as I has wondered why the block was for sale again (was sold six months ago) apparently the couple couldn't sell their house so had to sell the land. Anyway, hope it all goes well with finding a builder. My brother is drafts person he said that a budget of $800-$1000 m2 of an average home if that helps give you a guide. It really depends on what added extras you have eg high ceilings, stone bench tops can make the final cost add up. Good luck Re: plans in South Australia 9Jan 09, 2013 1:12 pm Great plans (we've got a 3m entry and love it) - good luck with finding a good builder!
