Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 07, 2013 8:30 pm Hi We went past our block today, can anyone help us with what this plastic/material is used for? Its around the whole perimiter of the slab inlcuding the small squares on the alfresco and porch. I am presuming its for the bricks? We haven't noticed it on houses before, but it may have been because we weren't looking. (I presume, yes) Not all the houses I have seen have it or do you think it would depend on the land? We have a blue termite barrier around our slab that looks like that, and then the bricky used the black plastic stuff where the termite barrier went under the frames rather than up the side of them. I'd be more concerned if the plastic wasn't around there Re: Can anyone help - plastic around slab? Picture in post. 5Jan 07, 2013 9:14 pm Thanks hsvboy11! Totally glad its there - just we want to make sure that whatever its for its done right. Our building company aren't back til next week so they are no help lol. Ok, so if it was a termite barrier - how exactly does this stuff deter them? And I wonder why it would be on the alfresco and porch? We just presumed they were bricked only? We are obviously very new to this building game lol. Picture in post. 10Jan 08, 2013 2:21 pm I'm not sure if that is a termite barrier, I would have a guess it would be more of a damp course than anything, termite barrier usually I have seen is a granulated rock. if you look at the porch where the column will be you can see the so called barrier is acting like a damp course but Its my assumption.
