So I thought now would be as good a time as any to start a thread as I start hunting for some ideas for colour selections. Building with Aveling in Harrisdale on a small cottage block, with a modified, however slightly Nautical design. Hopefully attatched below. As you can see I have left myself with a non existant backyard, however I wasnt prepared to sacrifice living space for an area outside that knowing me, wouldnt get the attention it deserves! My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62001 Re: Aveling-SOR build 2Jan 04, 2013 1:55 pm Ok. Now for color selection ideas. Ive made a bit of a start on the front elevation and such. My grandparents built a home a few years ago in South West WA which had a federation theme with the limestone render and red heritage brick coigning. Ive always loved the way the colours came together, so Im trying to bring a bit of that into my design. Estate guidelines state the front must have at least 2 colours and or materials. My thoughts so far are as follows Front render- Solver Cafe Latte Feature Render(Portico)- Solver Russet Roof + Garage- Colorbond Paperbark Gutters+Fascia- Colorbond Classic Cream Bricks- Midland(Boral)-Limestone Hue Im going with these off paper, I need to get out and try to find some displays that have something similar to get a feel for it. Internally I havent made too many decisions yet. I plan to do bamboo flooring post handover in a mocha/toffee tone. Nothing selected as yet. Benchtops are essastone. Again nothing selected but as the kitchen and bathrooms benches are to be the same, Im leaning towards a lighter colour such as New Basmati, white truffle, New Cairo etc. Ive ordered some samples of these and will go look in a few displays to try and narrow it down. Any suggestions on anything from above or anything else is most welcome! Infact encouraged My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62001 Re: Aveling-SOR build 3Jan 04, 2013 2:27 pm The laminex showroom in Osborne park is great! They have large slabs of the essa stone so you can get a real feel for the colour. On the small samples I couldn't tell the difference between the new crystal salt and crystal chalk, the big samples show the background colour is different one much whiter then the other. Displays are great to get an idea of colours you like and don't like. Also the tile showrooms can be good as many have inspiration boards up with combinations of tiles that work together. Re: Aveling-SOR build 5Jan 04, 2013 7:05 pm Hello again Jaceb. I have googled all your colours and reckon they go really well together. Like I said before, maybe get sample pots of all of them and paint some old fencing or even boxes (fairly large surfaces) and that will reassure you of having made the right decision. Bamboo floor is awesome, would be on our list of wants too but we can't because of dogs - they come first hehe. Look forward to reading more when you post. Cheers Re: Aveling-SOR build 6Jan 04, 2013 7:07 pm PS! love the laundry off kitchen, that's how they all should be in my opinion so practical. (I couldn't have it that way with the Wellard) Re: Aveling-SOR build 7Jan 11, 2013 11:51 pm Just looking for some guidance when it comes to cupboard sizes etc. I'm having a play around with the kitchen layout, and have sketched up a design where there are a couple of 600mm wide cupboards. I've drawn it to scale and have two 300 doors seems to look to out of proportion, whilst one 600 seems like it would be too large when I see it in actual size. Perhaps I'm wrong? Anybody have any experience with either of these scenarios or seen them? The height of the cupboards is approximately 800. My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62001 Re: Aveling-SOR build 8Jan 11, 2013 11:55 pm Not sure if there is a standard. Our original kitchen had different sizes, and the bathroom vanities! But I think many of ours were around the 500mm mark... You don't want them to be too wide because the door will take up space when open... Re: Aveling-SOR build 9Jan 12, 2013 8:29 am Hi Jaceb, we have a couple of large doors like that. It does look a little odd but we kept them big like that on purpose to gain better access to large items we will store in there. How about going 3 cupboards instead, that would balance it? You aren't talking overheads are you? You could also do wide drawers instead. Very practical but not cheap. I think the widest they will do is about 850mm and then put one cupboard door next to it? Post your sketch, let's have a sticky Re: Aveling-SOR build- Kitchen layout ideas? 10Jan 12, 2013 11:34 am Hopefully this will work. Excuse the messy drawings. No graph paper, and couldn't be be bothered finding a pencil! It's all drawn to scale however Any ideas on how this could be improved? Has anybody in Perth had any experience with any particular companies who they would recommend? Or bad experiences? My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62001 Re: Aveling-SOR build 12Jan 15, 2013 10:21 pm Looking at the kitchen layout looks pretty good. Have you considered having the oven in the tower? It would end up wider and then play around the cupboards and draws... For the island is there a reason for the draw above the cupboard? The one next to the bin draw? Also my dishwasher recess is only 610, are you are you need 645? Also are yu hvaing stone bench tops or laminate? Can't help with flooring, we're having wood loook vinyl planks Re: Aveling-SOR build 13Jan 15, 2013 10:24 pm No idea about bamboo floors but I do like your kitchen idea. Works really well, especially the bin and dishwasher location in relation to the sink. Are you having proper bin insert? If so, you possibly couldnt fit the drawer above. Maybe not so practical? Not sure. I have also pm'd you our kitchen layout, which I'm still struggling with, but its too late now. Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 14Jan 15, 2013 10:38 pm Hi SB A proper bin insert is my idea yes. Im not sure on the size of such, however if I need to take the drawer out, I will. Ideally I want to use one of the top drawers as a spice drawer, so as long as I get one extra Ill be happy! I moved the sink from the centre of the island towards the end to create 'more bench space' however now it wont aesthetically line up with the cook top behind. Hoping that this isnt going to look funny? My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62001 Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 15Jan 15, 2013 10:46 pm I think you need to go with more bench space. So what if they don't line up. No workspace would drive you insane. Believe me, now that I have about 80cm of it in this rental we're in, I have definitely changed my view on aesthetical. Practical is the WINNER lol Bin drawer and inserts approx $600.... Choke Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 16Jan 15, 2013 11:02 pm Agreed! We worried about having everything centered but we have actually pushed the sink to one end of the island and our cooktop is also to one end up the back bench, it was all about having extended bench space rather then small broken up space just to have everything centred Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 17Jan 15, 2013 11:05 pm I was also thinking it leaves more room to be able to sit at the bench and eat or do what ever you may do without being on top of the sink. I tend to sit at my Mums bench rather than the dining table 95% of the time. Fmac- I havent considered moving the stove top. Ill have a look at that as well as an option Planning a day excursion to the Laminex showroom and then Crosbys on Saturday! Bit excited, and also petrified at the same time! haha My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62001 Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 18Jan 15, 2013 11:08 pm This is what ours well look like http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/02097815-EE06-4AE6-98AD-68D8353CCE5A-3018-00000A34A69B825A.jpg http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/48CC9B8A-3A9F-4D3A-AF63-CDFE6C82F517-2096-000006D28A501678.jpg Crosby's is good, some really lovely people to help you out. We looked at stuff at the laminex showroom but didn't talk to anyone, but it is great to see things bigger! Not sure if you mentioned is your bench top stone of laminex? Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 19Jan 15, 2013 11:14 pm I have done this so often but had no idea there is a Laminex showroom??? Haha. I really do live under a rock here in Mandurah. And I'm glad practical wins Re: Aveling-SOR build-kitchen ideas&bamboo floor suggestions 20Jan 15, 2013 11:21 pm Yeah it is in Osborne park. It is great because they have large sheets of the essa stone, gives a much better perspective of colour and what it would look like as a bench rather then they small sample square. After going in I kind of wish we had done the new basmati for our benches rather then being safe with new crystal salt. Thank you so much. This has been very helpful.
