Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 21Jan 04, 2013 7:25 pm I like first one. I think they may be little grey against your furniture. But I can't think of what would look better. Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 22Jan 04, 2013 9:53 pm I've gone for solid timber floorboards (not pre finished) for my new house. I never bothered looking at any other alternative flooring but was interested to know how much do Vinyl planks cost? Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 23Jan 04, 2013 10:03 pm Hi JB1, Depending on quality you pay between $50 to $100/sqm, including sanding and slurry. There might be other brands I haven't looked at that could be less or even more than that? Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 24Jan 04, 2013 10:09 pm We were just quoted nearly $13,000 for approx 125 square metres which works out to roughly $104/m. For such a great product, I thought it was really reasonable. That included all the floor prep and slab testing but not the scotia. We were looking at the karndean and the kenbrock brands, karndean seemed to be a better product but they were both amazing. I love it, huge colour choices and so hard wearing and low maintenance. I also love the first pic the best. Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 25Jan 04, 2013 10:31 pm Hi busybusy. Which floor did you go for? Was it the Karndean? Sounds like its either the vangogh, davinci or art select? We have 144sqm (as far as I remember that's what the sales guy said but he never wrote it down for me, but when I think about it, our house isn't that big and I don't reckon that square metreage is correct!!!). It was $8200 for the knight tile and $8400 for the opus range, fully layed. I would like vangogh or art select for better quality but couldn't find a colour that would match. The first pic was knight tile in light worn oak that everyone favours. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it. Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 26Jan 04, 2013 10:42 pm Ours is from the van gogh series which is right in the right in middle of their 5 ranges. Ours is $6257 though that bit includes the cost of the laundry and Toilet tiles though I don't think that's much! But our whole house is only 122m2 so probably more then we would have got it for after but not much, I hope! Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 27Jan 04, 2013 10:48 pm Fmac, where did you get yours? That's a great price. Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 28Jan 04, 2013 10:52 pm Our floors were bout $5k for this house. Not sure for new house as no break down in quote just total with carpets in bedrooms/theatre is $10k Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 29Jan 04, 2013 10:54 pm That was for the art select in autumn oak, oak royale range. It is sooooo nice, was hard to choose between the oaks because they are all gorgeous. There is a great little booklet you can download if you haven't already, or they have 2 books at most of the flooring shops that sell the karndean. I could look at them all day lol We ended up going with Parador Laminate but only because the retailer we used didn't stock the Karndean and they do all of the flooring for the the company we are building with and who DH works for so they really gave us an offer we couldn't refuse, they knew I would have gone the karndean in a heartbeat if the price was lower and they would have lost the sale. We ended up getting the whole house done in the parador and nice carpet for the price we were quoted just for the karndean in the main living areas. When we build again we will definitely get the karndean. My favourite colours were the autumn oak and Australian walnut in the karndean and masterpiece in the kenbrock range. Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 30Jan 04, 2013 10:56 pm That is the price through our builder. It was about $1200 more then having their standard tiles through the kitchen/living/dining. The area is probably under 100m2 once you take out bedrooms, bathroom etc The whole flooring with tiles and vinyl planks and carpets ( though they are crap!) came to under $8000. The house is only 122m2 Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 31Jan 04, 2013 11:03 pm $13000 is huge though. I'm sure you could get good quality timber for that? Lol At that cost its definitely out of our reach too. Yes I have been reading the booklets non stop for 3 days !! Friends have had the vangogh down for over 3 years and NO visible scratches. Isn't that amazing?! I just doubt that the knight tile range would be anywhere near that tough especially with our dogs running around. Flooring is a real toughy to chose isn't it. Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 32Jan 04, 2013 11:05 pm No fmac the vangogh is excellent. I'm gopsmacked the builder offered it haha. That's really good value Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 33Jan 04, 2013 11:13 pm We did look at real timber and the quote for gum vein was nearly $17,000 for the same area, which is waaaaay out of our budget ha! It's quite a big area to be covered so we expected it to be pricey but tbh I was really surprised with just how expensive flooring has become since we built our first house 7 years ago. Or maybe our tastes have just gone up lol. But anyway I am happy with the laminate because I know it's not forever and I'll get my way in the next house! Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 34Jan 04, 2013 11:21 pm I like the Paramor laminate you chose busybusy but it would get ruined with us in no time Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 36Jan 04, 2013 11:28 pm What did the sales person say? Have you got plenty of info on that product to reassure you? I'm thinking toys, shoes, tantrums would be kinder on your floor than my neurotic, depressed and at times slightly deranged husky. Lol Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 37Jan 04, 2013 11:31 pm SB: our builder uses Trevor's carpets and they had it so we asked them to quote for it, wasn't a standar thing they offer. We did get it priced for the bedrooms as well and would have been about $10,000 Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 39Jan 04, 2013 11:33 pm Hahaha! Yeah the sales guy said it won't be a problem (ie scratches, scuff marks etc etc) but they ALL say that. I know it will scratch and mark, I am expecting that so I won't be too sad when it does happen, no flooring will be bullet proof with 3 small kids. We are thinking we will probably sell in 5 years and build again, DH should have his ticket by then and he's been supervising for a long time so hopefully we will have enough in equity to owner build. We are just starting out on our "serial builder" journey lol, hoping this house is the second of many Re: Vinyl planks - hate, love, indifferent? Please help 40Jan 04, 2013 11:43 pm Oh boy busybusy. I hope your serial building adventure will be more successful than mine. I was never smart / tough enough to build with head and used too much heart. Heart doesn't make money nor does compulsion to keep wanting to build. (I think my husky and i must be related somehow) Haha. Like I said at the beginning, this will be my last. Even signed a dummy contract to hubby guaranteeing I won't want to do this again - all in fun, he still loves me Good luck with your ventures busybusy. Sounds like hubby will have it all under control. A Sabco spin mop, minimal moisture, not very regularly.
