Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 27, 2012 12:25 pm Hi again, Thought I would post again regarding the idea of whether or not to put a pool in while buiding or save up some money later down the track and add it. We are new to perth and we definitely know we want to be putting a pool in at some stage as paddling pools might not cut the hot temps... I am at a stand still as to whether have it put in during the build process or to just wait a year after to get the money up so that we can have cost go toward building the house, landscaping etc Thank you Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 2Dec 27, 2012 4:16 pm Unless construction of your house will limit side access I don't see any reason why you can't put off building a pool. We have found some cost savings building our pool at the same time as the house (e.g. concrete pumping, tiling etc) but it's not major. Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 3Dec 27, 2012 6:23 pm We have decided to put the pool in right near construction end so then we can plan around the pool. We didnt want to leave a big dirt patch where the pool is going to be while we waited, or landscape it and have it all ripped up later for a pool. And possibly making a mess of any landscaping already done elsewhere. This way, the pool will go in and we will work around that with landscaping etc. We also have limited side access so once our pool goes in we will close off the sides with gates, which if we did first we'd have pretty much no chance of getting bobcat through. We are already having mini bobcat for excavation. I'd say if you definitely plan on having a pool, and you can afford it up front, get it out the way while your block is just a house surrounded by dirt. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. If the budget allows for it then do it now. We are hoping to be able to put our pool in as we build or very shortly after. I'm also intending on using the soil removed as backfill for a retaining wall that will be in place prior to build. Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 7Dec 28, 2012 3:35 pm I wouldnt exactly say its in our immediate budget but its something I want to look into (not even sure what the extra cost will be yet) once we have our final plans i will be looking into landscaping and pool designs straight away - after the weather this past week in Perth, pretty much determined i want the pool before the keys lol fingers crossed the extra cost wont blow my mind and push out the plans because you are all so right when you say - do we leave a patch of dirt (or in our case sandpit) before putting the pool in (Which maybe a year after build) or landscape and when ready to put pool in rip it up again if it were up to me I would put it in straight away but since i have had my way with floor plans, location, upgrades i think i should let my hubby make some decisions lol Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 8Dec 29, 2012 6:41 pm Had pools in 3 homes now, air-con wins this time around. Cheaper to install, year round use, and on day's like today going from air-con to outside to use pool that is full of warm water isn't really a plus IMO - if kids were still little then maybe. Wait for it....30k. And they will charge extra to take the excavated dirt away. Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 18Jan 03, 2013 5:04 pm Friends of ours recently had a small, regtangular pool put into their front yard (not sure of the exact size). They worked out it ended up costing them around $40-45,000 for everything to be fully finished. They now might have to spend some money on fixing up the grass that the excess sand was dumped on! They did have to pay to move the way the power lines came into their property as they still have overhead power and it was a difficult space to access. They have three young children and think it is well worth it, and now it is complete it looks great! Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 19Jan 03, 2013 5:27 pm We did all the running around, quoting etc whilst we were doing the same for the house. The cost was also then included with our loan. The actual construction began when we got to lock up on the house. This meant no problems with a pool full of water for the builders. Re: Pool - Is it worth it? 20Jan 04, 2013 12:08 am Wow that's good fairy! My builder tells me we can't include pool in our loan as bank won't cover it. MissEm are you in Perth by any chance?
