Is then no different to many other ensuites in which toilet itself is not enclosed - we have such and dont find it a problem - we dont use ensuite at same time as each other anyway All homes with ensuites have another toilet in the house - if someone in shower in ensuite, just use other toilet. Re: Whats your Biggest hate in New building plans 228Jan 20, 2013 10:00 am Ooooh sore subject this one...... Admit I'm not a fan either. Prefer closed ensuite and CLOSED WC. I think any couple where 1 partner has to get up before the crack of dawn would agree?? With the Rawson ensuite, swap shower and WC around and put a very nice Shoji screen across the entrance. And now it's a lovely ensuite I would be proud to show off. Variegated Re: Whats your Biggest hate in New building plans 230Jan 20, 2013 3:08 pm In my previous house I had a similar retreat, it was great as a quiet reading or thinking spot, and staring out of the window at the ocean. Definitely not wasted space. Re: Whats your Biggest hate in New building plans 232Jan 20, 2013 3:29 pm Hence my name from sea to trees... Re: Whats your Biggest hate in New building plans 234Jan 31, 2013 2:16 am I am at build stage and after weeks of scrutinizing the original plan we did a number of changes: *added a sink to the WC - can't stand the thought of going through to the bathroom to wash hands....germs everywhere eww! * pantry extension * garage extension * WIR entry was from bathroom and we changed it to outside, don't care if hubby needs to run from shower, he is dry by then. * doors to ensuite - hate no doors. Millsy.... http://q2retreat.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Whats your Biggest hate in New building plans 235Jan 31, 2013 10:19 am My pet hates... this could be an essay. As everyone has mentioned, lack of storage. WTF is wrong with these house designers? One linen cupboard for a 4 bed house? My guess is they're 22 with no kids and have no idea the amount of crap said kids accumulate.... or how much crap an adult who is older than 22 accumulates! Our walk in linen was a big selling point for us. Although all those nooks everyone hates can easily be converted into cupboards. Toilet placement. When I looked at displays, I always pictured a 3 year old in gumboots he forgot to remove, that had just stepped in dog poo coming in from the backyard to use the toilet. If the 3 year old had to go through the entire house, on carpet, to have a wee, we had a problem. I hate toilets that take the scenic route. I like them central. Easy for dog poo stepping 3 yos and intoxicated BBQ guests. Bench space in the kitchen. I like one clear area where I can carve and serve up a roast. A lot of kitchens seem to have a number of smaller areas of bench space but no big area. I have completely gone off island benches. I like one entrance to the kitchen. Easier to keep kids and animals out. My biggest pet hate (although it is rare now) is a walk through kitchen with another room (such as dining) off it. Kitchens cannot be de facto hallways. Laundry near minor bedrooms. I like it off the garage or near the kitchen. I grew up in a family of shift workers, myself included, and it's a PITA having to be quiet when doing laundry late at night or in the early morning because people are asleep in the next room. Open adult studies. Adult studies need doors. Kids computer areas need to be visible, but adult studies need doors. Narrow hallways and entryways in large houses. They can be wasted space in a small house, but in a large house it really adds to the feeling of spaciousness and makes it so easy to move furniture and large items. Tiny main bathrooms in large houses. Actually tiny main bathrooms in any house. Parents need room to sit or kneel while littlies are in the bath. If you hit your elbows on the wall drying yourself when you get out of the shower, the bathroom is probably too small. And with teenagers/young adult staying home longer, bathroom storage is handy. Small laundries in large houses. Laundries in cupboards are fantastic in apartments and small homes, but in a large 4 bed home, with all rooms occupied a big laundry with storage is a god send. It's been said before, but inability to seperate areas of the house for noise/heating/cooling reasons. (Ours is a little guilty of this, but our 3 TV areas can be separated.) Theatre rooms. This is only because I am an evil mother and he can watch movies on a normal TV like the rest of us. Seriously though, sometimes I think we take the fun out of anything being special (like a movie on the big screen) because it has become standard. Low ceilings. This is my first house with high celings. I can't go back. Not ever. Sorry. That's it for now. I'm sure I'll think of more. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Whats your Biggest hate in New building plans 240Jan 31, 2013 3:05 pm Ok I skipped quite a few posts but I LOVE open ensuite!! especially with a big gaping space so you can see straight in to a beautiful big bath sorry guys! Its one of my favorite things If I have a door on my bedroom I dont really feel privacy is an issue. I understand about DH getting up early and waking me up but he will normally use the other bathroom if that is the case....however a seperate toilet with a door is a must! I hate carpet in any area apart from the bedrooms and MAYBE the theatre... people rarely take their shoes off anymore and just trapse on through! too hard to keep clean. I hate not having a walk in linen cupboard....I have a vaccum cleaner that is NEVER put away because I have no where to put it. My absolute pet hate is the half-vanity in the bathroom... honestly you mayaswell have a sink coming off the wall with no bench space...my hairdryer wont even fit on that thing. Low ceilings Im not a fan of double sinks....only because Im the one that has to clean them Fridge recess that isnt deep enough and leaves the fridge not aligned with the cupboards... I hate kitchens without overhead cupboards Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6884 Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much.
