We have almost finished our front landscaping. It's been a slow process for us! We still have to complete some paving and pebbles. Sorry I see somewhere you went beige Royal half, I'm struggling between this and the full strength. My friend has the full strength and it is very striking but I'm worried it will date quickly. Then I'm worried the half will be more brown than grey. We renovated here with aria ivory (taubmans) and it looks too brown to me now ... Sorry any help would be appreciated. We have gloss white architraves doors and skirting boards. All my colours inside are warm grey/brown white neutral. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=82619 Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 964Apr 01, 2016 8:18 am flossy17 Hi your house is amazing I haven't had a chance to look through all your posts but can I ask you a couple of questions ? Yeah we have Beige Royal half on the walls and Vivid White gloss on the doors, architraves and skirting. I still love it. I was worried the half would be too dark but I found it's perfect for me. Our bathroom and laundry laminate is a grey colour and it goes well with the Royal Beige colour. The grey feature wall is Dulux Tea House. I'm already writing a list of "next house", and a kitchen with the shape yours has with the sink under a window is a must have. Your garden makes me so excited for how ours might look in a year. Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 966Apr 01, 2016 9:22 am HA You must be very proud and wow what a green thumb if something can't survive in our garden on a diet of benign neglect it doesn't survive. I do enjoy being in the garden but I'm a lazy gardener ie. I don't prepare my soil first like I should... Our soil is terrible. It shouldn't be called soil, it's very heavy clay. I'm surprised the plants have survived too! ? When they're newly planted I just ensure that they're kept well watered for at least a month or two. I also fed them a combination of Seasol Seawwod Solution and Seasol PowerFeed fertilizer every week or two for the first month or two. Now I just water before the really hot days and if we haven't had rain in a while. One the front is finished (mainly just paving/pebble area beside garage and small section beside the concreted path) we will have to get started on the backyard. We are planning on a sunken seated area beside the spa with a firepit. Hoping to have that done before June. A lot of stuff is taking a lot longer than I anticipated. And I haven't won Tattslotto like I planned ... gyped!!! Our home theatre isn't finished yet. That screen is in the man cave ? We have been here for almost 2 years and things are moving slow for us too. But I actually like having a project to work on so dragging it out isn't such a bad thing ? What a coincidence, we were planning on winning the lottery too! Hasn't happened for us yet either. At this stage we are focusing on the landscaping. Our hand is kind of forced that way as the owners of the vacant block next door start building in June. Our only access to the rear yard (well for machinery anyway) is through the side fence as we can remove sections of fence. I think we will focus on the front and backyard. A few things to do internally and then the theatre room will be last. Probably once everything's done I'll be bored. Not likely, haha! Like you, I'll definitely be happy once the garden is done (when I say 'garden' - no plants are even factored into the quote - hahaha!) Cinder - the plants are the fun part! The hardest part is choosing them (for me anyway) but when they are planted it makes such a difference ? Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 974Apr 01, 2016 6:35 pm cat_dunc Did you always know what types of plants you wanted? I've saved links to SO many plants over the last year... I've well and truly confused myself. Not really. I knew what colours I wanted and I knew I wanted plants that would look good all year round with their leaves and colour. I looked online a lot and went to a few nurseries with pictures of the front yard and asked lots of questions. The plants along the side of the driveway were the hardest to pick. I wanted a quick growing non-flowering hedge that didn't grow too tall and that could be kept narrow. I was against Pittosporums as they are so common and I wanted something with a darker green leaf. Whilst I was at a nursery I came across the Stephens Island variety and thought it was perfect. Darker green leaves and a mature height between 2.5m to 3 metres. Only grows approx 1.5m wide. The plant selection for the backyard is doing my head in ? I've got plenty of time though as I wouldn't plant anything now until at least September/October. Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 975Apr 01, 2016 6:38 pm Oh... And I wanted low maintenance. Only maintenance for the front yard (other than mowing the lawn at the top/front) will be trimming the Pittosporums occasionally and trimming the old followers from the Kangaroo Paw in the raised garden. Love your house but have my fingers crossed ours does not take so long. You were very patient. Your floors look great - we have the same floorboards currently in our spec list with builder but have been considering upgrading to spotted gum. Are you happy with how your floors have stood up to general wear and tear (particularly the dogs)? Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 977Apr 01, 2016 7:43 pm It all looks great! We are going a similar planting style (eventually!). Do you mind me asking where your dining chairs are from? They are fab! Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 978Apr 01, 2016 7:44 pm Lissame Hi HomeAngels - have just looked through your thread. The floors are ok. The coating/sealer they apply is very strong. Having said that our German Shepherd (who passed away in Sept ??) did scratch in a few areas. Mostly because he would try to grip the floor when getting up after laying down. Our American Staffy doesn't scratch it much at all. But she doesn't run around etc. she's pretty placid so that makes a big difference too. Plus she's a bit of a princess. She wouldn't dream of laying on the hard floor when there are soft places for her to lay down ? The biggest issue are the scuff marks when people SLIDE chairs instead of lifting them ? The chairs also have protective rubber feet on them. But that marks the finish/sealer not the actual timber so I suppose it wouldn't matter what timber you had when it comes to that. Either way I doubt there would be a real timber floor type and finish that is indestructible. Re: Our custom home -downslope- April update **PIC HEAVY** 979Apr 01, 2016 7:49 pm KLB It all looks great! We are going a similar planting style (eventually!). Do you mind me asking where your dining chairs are from? They are fab! Thanks KLB ? I can't wait for the Phormiums to grow. They should get to around 1.2m high. At the moment I'd guess they're around 60cm. and of course the Magnolia Little Gem, hedges and Birds of Paradise have a bit of growing to do too. The chairs came with the table. This is it http://www.harveynorman.com.au/brandon- ... tting.html We got it in the 9 piece setting. It also comes in 11 piece and a square 9 piece.
