Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 27, 2012 8:12 pm Hi. I'm hoping for a brilliant idea for how to place the power points in the master bedroom of my new house to be built. Ideally we'd have a double pwr pt on each side of the dble bed. The thing is, I have deliberately designed the room so we can place the bed against any of the 4 walls because I like to have flexibility and the ability to change; but to put 2 dble pts on each wall seems excessive & silly. The best solution I've come up with is a double in each corner of the room, plus one extra in the corner with the door - so there's one on each side of the door - 5 doubles in total. This seems to be the minimum number to allow one on each side of the bed against any wall, and have the cords run along the edge of the room against the wall, not across the room to the bed. Is there any other way to do it? Thanks! Re: how to position power points in master bedroom? 2Dec 27, 2012 8:24 pm I can't think of any other solution other than what you've mentioned. Although I have thought of something you may want to consider - how long will you need the cords to be to reach the bedside tables? If the distance from power point to bedside table is too long you may need extension cords which can get quite messy. Is there any particular reason why you want to be able to put the bed against any wall? If you really want that flexibility you could put 2 double point power points in the centre of each wall so it rests behind the bed head and you won't have cords running along the edge of the floor. In our current house we swapped the walls of our master bed. We have a double power point in the centre of where the bed head is and run a powerboard to each side from the centre. Not ideal, but not as messy as running them across the floor either. I guess it depends on how many things you want to plug in and whether you need to be able to easily get to the powerpoint. We have a clock/radio, a lamp, and a phone charger on one side and on the other side we have a lamp, a cordless phone and a phone charger. I reckon he was pretty right, and that was before laptops, mobile phone chargers, etc. For some more thoughts see http://www.anewhouse.com.au/?p=781 The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
