Browse Forums Building A New House Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 24Dec 29, 2012 9:40 pm Oh I should also mention that the reason we have decided not to put alfresco all the way across to activity end is because that's where I'm planning to put the pool but ill know for sure when I meet with the landscaper. I've wanted alfresco area to be outside kitchen because I plan on putting a window there and easy indoor outdoor access... But rethinking it because we are going to have a small pool-I have some investigating to do to see the size that we need and whether we can fit it in. Hubby wants pool on the other side which will shift alfresco to other end of house if you know what I mean Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 25Dec 29, 2012 10:11 pm My two cents on laundry location. If laundry is amongst kids bedrooms you are limited on when you can use your washer and dryer. Off kitchen you can have it on anytime of day/night. You can also use laundry easily for washing oven trays etc...even the rangehood vent things that dont fit in normal sink. Also wash vegies from the garden. I have had both options in various houses and love laundry off kitchen. Also do you like people walking through laundry to go to toilet? Some people dont mind. Because our cat litter is in laundry, i dont like toilet there too. Cat puts litter all over floor and dont like others seeing it (the clean litter by the way!). My laundry washing is always neat and tucked away out of sight, but i have been to other houses and laundry a mess and you climb over laundry piles to go to toilet. That would embarrass me, but i keep my laundry clean so not a big deal for me. love your master away from front of house...peace and privacy for the people paying the mortgage!!! nice having pool close to alfresco too. Sit and watch kids close by. Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 26Dec 29, 2012 10:11 pm My two cents on laundry location. If you have a movie on at night, kids might hear and wake up...especially with surround sound. If you have activity where theatre is, maybe entry near kids room and opening at hallway so you can still see in to watch play (or when older keep an eye on internet), still have area for furniture too but still kinda closed off and left in own zone. But i can see advantage to having it on other side. It is so hard when people have different opinions and reasons on why to do this and that! At the end of the day...what do you see as important? What do you like? What bothers you? Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 28Dec 29, 2012 11:33 pm Just curious as to what you have been told happens after signing the pcq as you said you have another meeting with your sales guy? After we signed and paid Im pretty sure they said we can change internal walls however we want and windows but best to leave external walls as signed on? We never had another meeting after signing but it would have been handy considering the number of changes and questions we have! :s Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 29Dec 29, 2012 11:41 pm The Vans - thank you so much for your views and I have to say youve made me realise the perks of having the laundry next to kitchen...what made me go back to the original plan - reason I did a sketch up today was I wanted to swap theatre and activity around because I liked the idea of having the activity close to the alfresco as well as a kitchen area-kiddies can play in there while we're outside and hubby keeps nagging about toilet being at the other en of the house... And I'm not the biggest fan of toilet in laundry either! I'm sticking to original plan now thanks for the confirmation... I guess it comes back to I loved it when I first seen it but staring at for soooo long now I see things that could need changing But I will definitely have access both hallway and bedroom which makes much more sense really! Yay thanks again! Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 30Dec 29, 2012 11:54 pm Hey Kat - because I was terribly indecisive on the floor plan I liked and kept saying no-we were given 12 plans to look over and digest and we are scheduled to see him again on 2nd Jan or the 7th I can't quite remember - pretty sure it's the 2nd to give him the confirmed design we want to go with. He said that I can cut them up and move around as I see fit but to keep within the square meters allowance. The only reason it wasn't straight forward for us was our land is a weird shape-23m frotage, 30 side and 15m at the back... So we wanted to keep as much backyard as possible(I think we failed!) but to also have 4x2 with office and activity...and I was a fussy b@$&! and kept saying no to designs that were sent through- I'd feel so guilty and almost want to cry when I didn't like any so thank god 3rd time around I found ones I liked but to be sure I think we were given time as well as I think we were cutting it so close to Xmas to get everything sorted that we must have been given some time to decide on plans That's what I meant by I feel out of my depth! As I actually don't know what a Pcq is? We've only got as far as signing something(I'm an idiot!) and paid $2000 deposit Actually while I'm at it- there's a few other acronyms when reading the forum I don't know lol CLO umm there's others that I've tried to google hahaha Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 31Dec 29, 2012 11:59 pm Now we have a floor plan we want-on the 2nd Jan when we meet up with the salesman he will do the full sketch up properly because you can imagine by floor plan #20 he started to get really basic on the designs so fingers crossed we will have the proper design first... It seems to me we are a long way to prestart meeting lol... Completely unaware of what we are doing but thanks everyone Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 32Dec 30, 2012 12:49 am Hahaha don't ever feel bad about rejecting plans...you are spending a lot of money! We rejected heaps before we drew up our own and then kept changing it every couple of weeks...our sales guy was very patient hahaha pcq- pre contract quote. For us any changes after signing this we are making a variation but there are no variation fees until after prestart so are free to fiddle until we have signed final contract after prestart. Clo- client liaison officer. Redink call theirs a CA for client advocate. we have an awesome one and you should be allocated one soon! They let you know what is going on and answer queries. Re: First home purchase - Building with Red Ink Homes in Per 33Jan 12, 2013 11:48 pm We too had a very patient sales rep with redink who helped us a lot and answered my unending questions. we changed as much as we could and did amend 1 or 2 items post pqc, which does slow the process down a fraction, my advice take your time now because theres only so much you can do at pre start. Besides its your home that you are building and you need to be comfortable with your choices rather then rushed. All the best chelle I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens.
