I am considering owner building as I have a bit of knowledge about it and a lot of tradie mates. I realise it will be harder and more time consuming but I am hoping to save some $$$. They still want to earn an income, if they give you good discounts then they will treat you second class. In answer to your question. Going owner builder probably mean you will get a better house and it is more affordable to do so. However it will take longer and you will have to do a lot of research along the way. Very rarely do you save money at a macro level. The main main reason behind this is because when you build yourself you will upgrade everything and simply put the money back into the house. If your going to do owner builder you need to do it for the right reason. Saving dollars wouldnt neccesserly be the main reason. AFAIK, flashing is a minimum standard.
