Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 16, 2012 5:52 pm Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of designing our first home. After reading many great ideas and suggestions on this forum, I've decided to put my question out there for your thoughts. We have a space in our house design that is the equivalent of a long, narrow study (4 m long, 1.7 m wide) and we don't know how to best use this area! Initial design we set this area as a study with skylight. On review, we decided to change it into a passage way entrance from the garage, with storage space on one side - creating an extra 4 metres of linen cupboards -and space for things we grab when we run out the door, kids shoes, hats, coats, bags, etc. Third idea we changed it into our laundry - still cupboard space etc - but not 4m worth. This idea removes the laundry from its initial location (typical location between toilet/bathroom, and kids bedrooms at either end of passageway) and allows us to increase the size of kids bedrooms to 4m x4m with WIR and study nook in each bedroom. If we keep the laundry where it is the kids bedrooms are standard build in robes and no study nook. We are going around in circles and can't finalise our plan because of our changing thoughts of this space! Some useful info - house is 3 bedrooms, + study (3mx3m with double doors, probably be used as a playroom), 2 living areas. We have 2 young kids and this house is to be our family home for many, many years. Does anyone have any input that could help us decide? Or any different ideas that we haven't considered!!? Which would be the best for resale value? How have people used spaces such as this?? Cheers everyone. Re: home design- ideas how to use a long narrow space 2Dec 16, 2012 6:37 pm What rooms does this space adjoin? Better still, a posting a rough sketch would be great! dimensions on your original plan are inconsistent and with accurate dimensions (including site plan, upstairs and down) i could make a proper scale drawing with furniture… 3 6196 Thanks NativeZen! I can't wait to start landscaping, though it's going to be a while away yet. No movement on site yet as of the weekend. Hoping to see some earthworks… 3 2149 Thanks again for this information. If you do hear anything different, would be great to know 4 5990 |
