Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 12, 2012 11:32 pm Hi, I'm new to this forum and would like your advice. Recently, I had called Stratco to get a quote to install fencing. I was told by Stratco that they don't give out contact numbers, instead the stratco approved contractor would call me to make an appointment with me within 48 hours. Well, I didn't get a call from their contractor till 10 days later. Anyways, a guy turned up to my house and did the measurement, and gave me numerous excuses on why he couldnt do the job until more than a month later. One of the reasons given was that he is only doing this part time and he had a busy schedule. Despite Stratco having a good product, I'm not sure why they only hire people to install their products on a part time basis. On top of that, this guy made a mistake on his scheduling and pushed me further back another week. So this contractor had said to me that he would order the required items for this job from Stratco on my behalf and deliver them with a fee. All I had to do was to pay for it under a certain invoice number. Well, I did what I was told by the Stratco contractor and paid for it. I also asked for a copy of the invoice receipt. On the day of the job, the contractor delivered the items to my house, not realising that I was checking the goods against the items paid for in the invoice. I realised that the contractor had me paid for the extra items he ordered for himself. This Stratco contractor was not only dishonest but was rude and posed a threat to me during the job. Well, I did not complain about his dishonesty nor his behaviour as I do not want to risk the safety of my family at that time. I'm still considering to report this to Stratco head office so that other unsuspecting home owners who is looking to use a Stratco contractor will not experience this. What is your advice? Re: Stratco fencing issues 2Dec 13, 2012 9:18 am I would be reporting him both to Stratco so that his contract would be terminated with them and to the police to have him charged with theft by deception, ie gaining a financial advantage. It's tradesperson's like him that tarnish the rest. DO NO let him get away with it. You need a witness and evidence. Police will just treat it as a civil dispute without anyone to back up the physical threat story. If the OP has a copy of the stratco invoice with the materials, he may be able to go to fair trading and request that the materials he paid for be refunded (will need an itemised list, plus photos of what did get used in the fence versus what didnt). But chances are, if the tradie has no qualms making threats, he has no qualms ignoring fair trading. Really, the time to stand your ground is when the incident occurs, not days/weeks after.
