Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 07, 2012 1:29 pm Hi All, I have a vacant block which i am building on and I am trying to get a figure on what it would cost to drag powerlines up to the house site (600m away). I have contacted both Energex and an electricial contractor for quote, but both have said its the other's job. The scope of work would be. 1. Run 600m of poles/cable from property boundary to house site 2. Install Temp Meter @ house site 3. Connect property poles to main grid 3. Install real meter once house is built I understand that Energex owns up to the meter box, but would would Quote and do the work? Who did your property pole and meter box installation? Thanks Gerbz Re: Power to Vancant Block - Who does what? 4Dec 13, 2012 11:28 am My understanding (and i could be wrong) is that its the electricans job to run all the wiring, install meter box etc but the energy supplier would need to come and install the actual meter.. But I could be wrong. When our builder connected the house to the mainlines im 90% sure it was his electrician who did it. There is an energy company ours was sp ausnet that puts in poles and the transformer. We had to dig from the pole to the house and barn sites. Electrician laid cable, put in meter boxes, connected everything. Power company inspected trenches, meter box and turned on supply. Cost us 35k, and the pole was put there by the people we bought the block off. They paid 10k per pole. Ours was expensive as we run about 150m cable underground to our barn and sheds, our house site was 80m from the pole. The power company would not want more work to do other than maintaining their own lines. So they would let you install your power, and then just inspect, sign off and plug you in at completion Re: Power to Vancant Block - Who does what? 9Dec 14, 2012 8:07 am Please disregard everything I said. Coz ive just read your original post again and I must have went blind coz I read 600m as mm so what I said is incorrect and doesn't apply to your situation. My apologies. We just moved the Meter box and again the electrician, put in the pit to join the cables, and made the connections to the new meter box on the house. The power company just cut the power in the morning, inspected the Pit and trench prior to turning power back on. Electrician did all the work. Thanks 1 13279 2 15459 Our relationship with the owner is good, but I'm not sure if I want to impose putting a pole on their property.
