Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 04, 2012 9:39 am Put this question into my thread but thought the best way to have an answer is to put a new post into the forum We have a Rheem Solar Hot Water system for our new house (Panel's on the roof & tank on the ground) everything but the Electricity is connected to the unit. The power will be hooked up once we have our appliances installed. My question is without power will the unit be operational and generating usable hot water via the panels? We don't want to book the appliances as it will be very tight on the final installation date of 2012 and the flooring in the kitchen being completed. Would be nice to have Hot Water at the house so when we are there doing lawns etc I could have a shower or if we want to move in before the Kitchen appliances are in we can Re: Solar Hot Water - Electric Boost 2Dec 04, 2012 10:47 am You won't have hot water, as without a circulating pump running the hot water will stay in the panel. Re: Solar Hot Water - Electric Boost 3Dec 04, 2012 10:59 am cheers thanks mate, I'll talk to the builder about the chances of having this powered up prior to the appliances Re: Solar Hot Water - Electric Boost 4Dec 04, 2012 12:49 pm check with your builder as to whether the heat exchanger on the panels could be damaged by excessive heating by not having water circulating. I know the Apricus warranty specifically excludes any damage caused by and while not having power to the system. Don't know about Reece but its probably similar. Regards RiH Re: Solar Hot Water - Electric Boost 5Mar 19, 2013 8:13 am I asked this elsewhere but - does the unit have an auto on for the boost system - or do you need to switch it on yourself ? Re: Solar Hot Water - Electric Boost 6Mar 19, 2013 1:09 pm Like all storage systems it is thermostat controlled. Unless controlled by a timer the electric boost will only come on when the water temp drops below the required level. If using a timer the boost will only come on if needed between the times you allocate. When the system is commissioned, all that is required is power to the circulating pump (assuming there is some sunshine) and you will have hot water. No electric boost is required. We had moved in for over a week before we realised the electric boost was not turned on.
