Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 29, 2012 4:48 pm Hi We have prestart on Friday and I am slowly ticking choices off my list but one I'm not sure on his our hot water system. I had originally thought we would get solar but we really don't have the money for the upfront investment. Then I thought we would get electric and we would get solar panels but at this stage I don't think we will be able to afford them for a while after we move it... Which took me back to gas but if we go that way don't know if we should get instantaneous or storage. We've had both in the past and have never really seen much of a difference... I am now leaning towards the instantaneous as on our small block and build we don't have a lot of spare space... What things should we look for? Ask about? I would love to hear other people's opinions Thanks! Re: Hot water system advice.... 2Nov 30, 2012 10:50 am We've gone with instantaneous gas for both our builds. Depends on family size etc, but heating up stored water isn't the most energy efficient way to go and you always run the risk of potentially running out. Hot water on demmand - you only use the gas as you need it. Only downsides - if you don't have natural gas in the street, having to order LPG bottles on a regular basis can be annoying and expensive - and if you don't keep on top it you can find yourself caught without gas! With the size of the system, find out what is recommended for a family your size and then get the size above it. Or if you have a long skinny house, it may work out better to get two smaller systems to service each end of the house. Re: Hot water system advice.... 3Nov 30, 2012 11:59 am Heatpumps are the other option which are cheaper to buy than solar. They use very little power although some people complain they can be noisy if near a bedroom window etc Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57639 Re: Hot water system advice.... 4Nov 30, 2012 5:01 pm Well the builder quoted $2000 to upgrade to instantaneous gas hot water so considering going with their storage system and changing it once we get keys.... the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14072 instantaneous is three phase and draws heaps of current, the efficiency comes from not storing it so you don’t lose heat to the environment. The problem is it is not… 5 1164 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit? Will I be able to build around it and be… 0 20234 |
